More shocking than your accident is the fact that you have ex wives named David and Peter

    Red,

Nice catch! Pretty dang funny. I hate it when an opportunity like that skipped by me, and someone else caught it before I did. It's like I was off my game, even for a minute. I'm disappointed in myself.

I've been trying to tell you guys. It's all about the punctuation!

Well, if that's the case, it's still funny. I've been laughing all morning.

If this were posted in any other section, I would tell you to keep you opinion to yourself. Since its in the 19th hole, anything goes.

Hate to hear this happened to you Charlie. If two were life flighted away, I hope everyone involved is doing well. I'm glad you have some prospects in what seems to be a tough job market.

To your original question, I would take the money over the unemployment benefit and leave the lawyer out of it. Go start fresh somewhere.

    Scott,

Suicide is no joke. It has devastating consequences and is 100% preventable.

The fact that you shared this on the forum is either a scream for help or extremely bad taste.

    Get help either way. http://www.suicidehotlines.com/

You have shared many facets of your life here on the forums. It is really a amazing story of perseverance, and you are part of our GCSAA forum family. Just like family we do not always agree but we still care.

For Heaven's Sake Sean, lighten up. It's only a figure of speech. People have been threatening to commit suicide for the most trivial reasons since time immemorial. It's a rhetorical device employed to express regret over some perceived mistake. Just as an example, take the traditional folk song, "Good Night Irene":

Sometimes I live in the country
Sometimes I live in the town

Sometimes I have a great notion
To jump In the river and drown

    Irene goodnight, Irene good night
Good night Irene, good night Irene
I'll see you in my dreams

Not everybody who sings the song is in bad taste or crying for help.

I can certainly understand how that comment could be misinterpreted. I am not going to seek out help for having bad taste sometimes. I do not see that as making a difference to those that are suicidal or make my life any more enjoyable. My point was that people make stupid mistakes. That is nothing new. I had a bad car accident. It was my fault. People got hurt. I am not alone.

I have been assigned to work Manager-on-Duty at resorts where I worked in the past. People come to hotels to commit suicide. They are secure. They won't be found by a family member. There is no mess to clean up at home. I had a few on my watch. No one ever dies in the hotel. I mean they are obviously gone, but they do not pronounce them dead until after they are out. The rooms are taken down to bare concrete walls and sanitized. The exact styles and colors of new stuff is put back in the room even if the room is scheduled for renovation in three months. I re-carpeted my 3000 square foot house using the new carpet from suicide rooms that was all less than six months old.

When my son was in Afghanistan he was told not to be taken alive. My son-in-law flies tankers over Afghanistan. They give him a handgun that holds twenty rounds. They told him that if should ever need to use it, the first 19 and for the enemy and the last one is for him.

I understand there are religions that intimate that you will go to hell for committing suicide. If you approach from a strictly Biblical point of view, that is certainly debatable.

After 8 years in the Superintendent business, I'm moving on. I'll be taking a job in the sales side of the world. If any of you guys are looking to move to South Texas, my job will be posted this afternoon - Rockport Country Club. Feel free to ask any questions you may have about the position or course. I have put enough time, love and effort in this place to want the next superintendent to be able to continue on things I have started and keep the club in the condition it deserves to be in.

Thanks David. I'll have to censor everything that could change someones opinion of me (think 19th hole) and try to be objective about equipment posts (since I'll be selling Toro) but plan to be on the forums regularly.

I had to give up speaking at the upcoming GIS in San Diego, my committee position on the Conference Education Committee with the GCSAA, and all the work I have already put into my CGCS portfolio, but am looking into ways that I can be a contributor to the Association from the vendor side of the world.

    Daniel,

Good luck in your new position! Keep in touch and I'm sure our paths will meet again at the GIS shows.

    Daniel,

I wonder if your work toward your portfolio could be transferable to the sales person equivalent? Our Toro salesman is a SCPS.

    Best of luck to you.

I wish it could. I will have to receive one of the sales certifications within the first 6 months. I believe it is a requirement that comes from Toro to the distributors. Not entirely sure yet :)

I'm the only superintendent I know that does not work a scheduled weekend. I am here for tournaments, emergencies and when weather dictates. It still adds up to about 20/year but it beats every other weekend.

When I was in equipment sales I worked nights and weekends. This was the only time I had to get paperwork done. I did my best to fill up weekdays with sales calls.

    Daniel,

Good luck with your future career plans. It was a pleasure to meet and work with you on the Conference Education Committee this year. I know you'll stay involved with GCSAA however you can in the years ahead. Take care.
