Now MSU and PSU are good programs but they don't have "THE" in the name like the school in the middle

Are we talking pea brains or pea gravel? No one said to put down, a couple of Coronitas surely would have tempered the reasoning. coarse particles only to dull equipment and pick them back up again.

Larry brought up the concept of what happens when normal plug pulling no longer reaches bottom of fine topdressing. We don't know because guys have only been doing this for several years. We will find out. It is like drilling and filling but not reaching the gravel layer.

The jury is still out and no assumptions have been made.

USGA says pea gravel is not necessary if :

    D15 gravel is < or = 8 x D85 rootzone
    D15 gravel > or = 5 x D15 rootzone
    D90 gravel / D15 gravel is < or = 3.0
No particles gravel > 12 mm
Not more than 10% gravel < 2 mm
Not more than 5% gravel < 1 mm

More beer all around will help get through summer

    Daryck,

I have been talking with Mike Brown (Coastal Turf) about this subject as well. He is a "FIRM" believer in the finer sand. He told me that his best Champions courses are the ones using a finer sand. He gave me a sample and since I have my own screens did some testing myself on the sample to see what the breakdown is. I think the key here is less than 3% in the bottom pan. He also gave me some names of some very prominent guys using this for over 10 years with success. Some keys from one super here is to use wetting agents, gypsum, watch fertility, and roll often. I have found a source that closly matches this sand and am about to test this theory out myself on one of my courses. I have been an advocate of the courser sand too but with Champions its just not doing what I want so I am going forward with the finer sand myself.

pale said: See I think the overall problem here is that you are a stubborn C and you went to the wrong school. A five hour drive and you could have attended an institution of higher learning ie Penn State...Had you paid for the gas we wouldn't be having this conversation.
Disclaimer: This is in no way meant to besmirch the reputations of any of you who attended "The Other Place" Michigan State. Most have openly admitted to this mistake of poor adolescent judgement

    I hate you Larry.
