    GREETINGS;

    In 1993, Joe Biden was the deciding vote in raising taxes on social Security from 50 % to 85 %. In this case, the change was part of a major tax bill that President Bill Clinton had laid out in his State of the Union Address in February, 1993.

    Among its provisions was an increase to the amount of Social Security benefits that could be taxed for some recipients. The way this claim is phrased, though, it sounds like the benefits are subject to an 85 %tax rate. That's not right. This change to the Social Security program was structured similar to the 1983 change.

    It added another bracket to the income thresholds and increased the portion of benefits eligible to be taxed if recipients exceeded the second - tier thresholds. Under this bill, single recipients with income over $34,000 and married couples making more than $44,000 could pay income tax on up to 85% of their Social Security benefits. This tax bill which included several controversial changes, was highly partisan. Not a single Republican voted in favor of it.

    Biden voted for the bill, along with the majority of his Democratic colleagues in the Senate. He was not the "deciding vote," though. the Senate was tied 50 - 50, and the Vice President Al Gore cast the deciding vote. So, it's true that Biden voted for an increase in the amount of Social Security benefits that could be taxed for some recipients, but it didn't apply to all recipients and he wasn't the "deciding vote".

    OK, this all took place about close to 39 years ago. In this time Congress ( both parties are guilty ) has taken nearly $ 2.9 TRILLION DOLLARS from Social Security. You notice I said taken not borrowed. You wonder why the funds are sinking like a ship in S.S. Go ahead and fact check it. I may be off by a year or two.

    It's no secret about what you receive in benefits from Social Security. Combined, my wife and I pay  $6012.00 for Medicare & Medicaid Part B & D and a supplement Manage Blue for seniors $2944. That = a total of $8956.00 & this does not include Dental, Hearing Aids and I'm sure of a few other things. Taxes on S.S. total $6239.00. this = a total of $15,195.00.  Now, subtract this from your S.S. total. I love S.S. and Medicare & Medicaid cover a lot but not all. Example: I paid this year approximately $15,000 for two implants. (teeth)

    To my colleagues out there save a little every month and count on S.S. for a little better retirement.

    AW! I'm just irritated that I didn't attend the conference and golf tournament in San Diego. I could well afford it but circumstances made it a little difficult at best to attend. so, I had to write about something . Write or complain or both!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi Corey;

    Good to here from you. I hope you and yours are in good health. Do you play golf any more and still use the 1 iron? I like that 2 down after 2 - I think that was in Texas. I was so excited to have you 2 down. I still think you did that on purpose to make me feel good. Of course, in the remaining 16 holes I only won one more.

    I checked my Social Security and that is what we pay $6012.00 for Medicare & Medicaid part B and D.

    I assume you did not read the whole SS part when you received it in January. " The law requires some people to pay higher premiums for their Medicare Part B ( Medical Insurance ) because of their income ". In the past three years, I never received a stimulus check from Uncle Sam.

    You do realize, you left yourself wide open when you said " We must not live in the same country ".  My youngest daughter lives in CA and she is always invited to Democrat U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell gatherings and they know I'm a Trump man and he told my daughter that he is going to send me an autograph copy of his latest book.

    I see your CGCS - how many years have you been Certified ? I received my certification diploma in Cincinnati at the GCSAA Conference in 1971. However, family illness, new maintenance facility, new arrival, gasoline on odd or even days. I have all kinds of excuses in the 5 years and I lost my certification. I still regret it today that I never continued.

    Hey there Captain.  Missed seeing you.  My son/assistant was my 4 ball partner this year.  His first conference.  As I only played 9 holes all of last year and he only played a few times at Top Golf, we did OK.

    An autograph from Rep. "Nuke'em" Swalwel worth anything?

    Hi Chris;

    I was planning on going to San Diego but too many things went wrong. The biggest problem was one of my brothers passed away just before Christmas. He suffered from  (PTSD)  Post  -Traumatic Stress Disorder. A former sergeant in the Marine Corps - commander and gunner on a tank - with two tours of Viet Nam. He lived in SC. I have two other brothers that were in the Marine Corps  and also in Viet Nam. One was a tunnel rat and  the other served on the U.S.S. Forrestal.

    The Forestall blew up in the Gulf of Tonkin on July 29, 1967 after an electrical anomaly caused a Zuni rocket on a F - 4 B Phantom to fire striking an external fuel tank of an A-4 Skyhawk. 134 marines and sailors died and 161 were injured. Senator John McCain was also on the carrier when this accident happened. My brother was recommended for The Navy Cross but received the Navy Commendation Medal. He helped carry the injured and dead below deck. And, he along with others saved lives. Another brother was in the Air Force but that was before Viet Nam. Many don't remember but the Military from Viet Nam were treated pretty badly by the American young when they came home.

    This is why I missed San Diego. You know, I feel much better now. thanks for writing. You said you played golf with a supt. and his assistant from North of Boston. do you remember who they were?

    You ask if an autograph from Rep." Nuke em" Swalwell is worth anything - Yes a penny.

    Remember Vietnam well.  Daily video on the news on TV.  Several friends had older brothers go over and my h.s. biology teacher in 1977 was a POW.  He would take a break during lecture every once in a while and put his head in his hands.  His story was he and a buddy were captured and tortured.  At some point they had to decide who would die and who would go home.  His buddy sacrificed himself as my teacher had a family and his buddy did not.
    John and I were paired in the scramble with Eric Richardson and Hunter Mott from Essex CC.  We had a great time with those two.

    Hey Capt.  You had a brother that was a tunnel rat?  I know about that job, he was a brave man, as all your brothers were.

    My dad was in the Air Force and went over in 68, when he got back in 69, he had his twenty years in and retired at 39.  We had bought a house north of Tampa before dad left for Viet Nam, that we moved to.  Mom got a job at the golf course as a cook, and dad after going to college got roped in attending bar for a dinner at the golf course, (He had learned how to tend bar when he was stationed in Goose Bay Labrador).  He ended up bartending, working in the Pro Shop, fixing carts, was made the Food and Beverage Manager, dad used to joke they did that so they could pay him salary and he didn't even make minimum wage.  I started on carts at 14 and longed to run the Parkmaster, ended up in maintenance and as they say after a couple of detours, the rest is history.

    Thanks for sending me Jen's book, I still follow her on all the social media platforms.

    Hope to see you in Orlando.
