Hello everyone, I am looking for your opinions on mounting heads for your Pro Core 648. I have a standard 1/2" heads currently (what I inherited) but I am looking at doing more venting on my Tif Eagle greens. If you had to pick between a needle tine head and a quad tine head which would it be?

    What's your favorite venting tines?
I inherited a course that lacked on aerification over the past few years but they do have 2 Pro Core 648's in the building.

    Thanks

I have used a couple of different heads for venting, at different properties.
    (1) part # 108-6809, holds 6 tines,  using all 6 tines per head, 3/8" mount
    (2) part # 105-1184, holds 10 tines, would use only 5 tines per head- staggered, 3/8" mount. Even used these heads for bigger tines for pulling cores- just use 5 tines per head, or 3/8" cores using all 10 tines per head.
Have been using JRM 1/4" tines with great success for venting. Part # 2T250189. Usually get 4-5 aerifications out of a set on sand based greens.

We have a 648.  Seems to vary place to place like most other things.  We have and tried needle tines and found they break too easily.  We have the "quad" tine holders with 1/4" solids and found that they tend to soften the upper profile too much.  For us the 4 place holders with 1/4 solid on 2x2 spacing works the best.  USGA   We have been monthly venting for almost 20 years.

Here at Quincy Country Club we vent our greens with 1/4" solid tines with tine holders 5 pre head staggered and don't have any issues with braking tines. we do this as often as we can during growing season. We also have a set of 3/4 "  holders for both of the 648's we have and tried the slicing tine the only issue holes stay open longer and may cause wilting if not on top of things. But to answer your question 1/4" solid is what we use the most. Hope we helped.
