Winter Ice Rink??

This topic could fall into several categories.  I am researching the potential addition of an outdoor ice rink for next winter.  We are a golf club and our winter activity drops significantly once the golf course closes for the winter.  We do offer a groomed cross country ski trail and a ice rink may be a very nice compliment and would offer another amenity to members.

For those of you that have experience with a winter ice rink, I'd appreciate any feedback to the following questions or concerns I have:

Any turf issues in the spring? (plastic liner option would be used).

    Ice smoothing tools or tips?

Any 'if I had to do it again' advice?

    Thanks in advance

    Dustin:

I could probably help you answering a lot of your questions as we have done a few rinks on different surfaces over the years. My position is Golf/Ice Facilities Manager for the City of Aspen. The City has two indoor Ice facilities and the Aspen Golf Club. In addition to those facilities we use to build a additional outdoor skating rink next to our Rec Center. We have not done the outdoor rink in the last few years as it was a lot of work and not enough longevity for various reasons. If you are interested please feel free to call me 970/544-4116.

Thanks Dominic.  I will take you up on the offer to discuss. I'll try you in a few days.
