I need some help.  There are areas on my course where the cart path curves.  It can be 90 degrees or maybe 45 degree curve.  The issue is carts usually put two tires on the inside of the curve and it ruts out the turf.  Where I have curbs I don't see the problem obviously, but I have sprinkler heads on a lot of the curves that get run over as well as the turf getting beaten up.

I have placed large rocks (softball sized) half buried and that works to some extent but they usually end up getting hit and dislodged from their places.  Some areas I don't really want to add rocks because they would have a good chance of messing up someones shot.  Also stakes and ropes are not ideal.  Does anyone have a solution short of adding curbs everywhere?

    Tyler,

There is no solution other than installing a physical barrier. The path can be 6' wide or 12' wide. Doesn't matter. The golfers will always find the grass.

This particular path was 9' wide. It was expanded to 12' wide. See the results.

Same here. Put all new paths in and made curves ten feet wide. They still couldn't stay on paths. We then put in curbs and solved the problem in most. Very labor intensive regrading and draining after curbs were in.

    How about Spike Strips?

Here at Audubon Park and Golf in NO I have many curves that have those same rocks but they are concreted into the curve. it seems to work pretty good here. I can see I am in need of adding more though.

    Tyler,
Typically golf course builders widen the path in the unfortunate areas where they require such tight turns, I have seen where superintendents add these sections later, or do them with bricks or rocks. Best to just avoid such situations during construction....

Having said that, it seems that all golfers like to park 1/2 in the grass???

Not ours, they like to park all in the grass, and about halfway up the green bank.
