We have 2 John Deere 2500A deisel triplex (9-blade) we bought used before I arrived at this course.  We used them on tees with no baskets.  What we don't like is the clippings seem to clump up and leave these small clumps all over the tees to the point we must blow them off after mowing.  Clumps up no matter if it's wet or dry, but, of course  its much worse first thing in the morning when it's wet.  Prefer not to use buckets due to cost to fit them plus the time it takes to empty them .  We've tried different reel speeds both slow and fast and it doesn't seem to make a difference. The clippings are dispersed out the front of the reel and it doesn't look like we can change the unit to disperse to the rear of the blades.  We also use a VERY old Jacobsen GK IV to mow tees (with clippings dispersing in the front of the reel) and there is not a clumping problem. But i know that this older Jac won't last long and we will eventually have to mow tees with these JD 2500s we bought.

Any ideas to rid these pesky clumps??

what kind of front rollers do you have on the 2500?  Are they the same depth as the jake?  A deeper front groove might help.  Funny we have two 2500's as well that mow tees/approaches and an old gkiv+ that is the emergency mower.  I started putting Anuew (PGR) on the tees that helped.

We have been using 2500A and Bs with 7 blade reels on tees for the past 15 years.  We came to the conclusion that if you do not want clumps, you use baskets.  Occasionally, I will send mowers out without baskets when dry and not have an issue.  We tried the roller scarper early on and that made things worse, and then I got a hold of some used power brush kits and that helped a whole lot if mowing without basket and wet, but will still leave some clumps if you do not use baskets. We use Primo and this may help your situation some, but without baskets, you will probably still see clumps.

I use all John Deere mowers for greens tees, and fairways. I do colect clippings on my tees. What I found out , there are different shields on the mowers, one style for collecting clippings and a different one for forward dispersing of the clippings, which flings them higher.
