Sure sounds like we have been prepared for handling this nightmare! Every step of the way we missed the boat with this guy in Dallas. Now it has been admitted he came in contact with at least 80 people. His family warned people and yet he is outside barfing his guts out before he is taken to the hospital by team not in protective gear. Read about outbreaks like this years ago and we didn't learn a think. Guess somehow our government, the CDC, Homeland Security and every other agency forgot things called planes fly around the world. This will not turn out well!

The CDC is more concerned with handgun injuries and deaths, as if those qualify as diseases.

Now Luis Farrakaan is spouting off that it is a man made white man disease specifically for population control in mostly black countries. Said the same thing about AIDS but last I checked, tons of white people have died from AIDS. Why can't common sense prevail once in a while!

In 1987 I was in Mount Elgon National Park in Kenya. One of the things to see is Kitum Cave which has been hollowed out by elephants trying to get at salt deposits. When we entered the park the ranger told us that Kitum Cave was closed but there were a couple other caves we could visit right next to it.
When we drove past Kitum Cave we saw a WHO truck so we decided to stop and walk up the path to the cave. Every 20 feet or so along the path had wicker type bird cages with monkeys inside. Must have been a good 20 or so of them. When we got to the mouth of the cave it was sealed over with tarps and an airlock entry point. It was unguarded but we though better of entering and left.
I had always wondered about that until later reading a book describing exactly what we had witnessed. They were searching for Ebola since an infected man had spent a night in the cave a few weeks prior
    Weird shit

Even way back when I read the book they were looking at Green Rheus monkey's as a source. They looked at everything from locals eating certain monkeys to even having sex with them. They were concerned back then about bats, fleas or anything that might carry this virus. Guess they are strongly leaning towards bats again. Unfortunately, Ebola comes in a few different strains. Marburg virus was another of the hemorragic virus concerns that control was unknown since they had no clue how they started. Could wipe out a 1.2 million in Africa this year and we may have let it loose in the U.S. Just wonderful!

Sandy, Speaking from experience, there is no way this thing will affect The West as it has decimated Africa. Take a quick look at any news photos from West Africa. Hygiene and Hospitals are not at the top of their list. Isolation is impossible there. There will be some isolated cases in NA from travelers, but certainly nothing even close to what is happening there.

Maybe someone can confirm this, but I thought a large reason for the Ebola spread in Africa is due to the custom of hugging the deceased.

We certainly will deal with it far better than poverty stricken unsanitary locations in Africa but any virus that can kill up to 80% could probably manage to kill 20% even in a modern country. Still a very dangerous scenario!

This man named Duncan from Algeria visited relatives in Texas. He lied on his form about Ebola. No doubt he has infected some people. Three different planes - visiting family and the hospital staff that sent him away from a hospital in Texas after giving him some antibiotics for his sickness which they diagnosed was wrong. Another four days before he was admitted for EBOLA.

I'm sure ALLAH is informing his people to have the ladies get infected and come to the U.S. and hang around with some, we'll say adults. That will be the fastest way to start an epidemic over here. ALLAH will be very pleased. Meantime, let's not SECURE the border and let all the people enter, what the hell we are AMERICA. Larry you can even let them in from CANADA.

I'm sure most of you don't remember CUBA when Fidel Castro let all the prisoners enter the U.S.

There is a virus going around that is affecting children. Wonder if that's from all the illegals entering this country without being examined by doctors.

Remember, those that don't like us will get us from within.

Think about Ebola hitting our neighbors to the south. Guarantee they aren't prepared for it and they flow in here uninhibited for the most part. It will get worse before it gets better!

It would be wrong to separate Ebola from it's host.

Now Uganda has a reported case of the Marburg Virus. Very similar to Ebola. I have talked to a couple of doctor friends and behind the scenes and away from the press, they are talking about this virus hitting kids being started directly from the immigrants just let in the country. It is too politically sensitive for it to be covered in the Obama Press. Do we have just one good investigative reporter with ethics that will say to hell with politics and dig into this virus issue? This was all pretty predictable! This is the first time in my lifetime where the U.S. has faced this many outside threats at the same time. Terrorism, dangerous regimes and medical problems all at the same time. We did have Polio and post Korea when I was a kid but nothing this dangerous. Kind of scary. Maybe my father in law who checked out Saturday had inside knowledge and decided to head for heaven rather than be involved in this mess!

It has now been pretty well traced back to the Obama immigration fiasco that the virus hitting kids did begin in states where the first Central American immigrants were dumped. No surprise with no consistent vaccinations in that part of the world. Another good deed not thought through that is having devastating results!

You are losing me Sandy. How does a case of Marburg in Uganda relate to Central American immigrants and Obama?

Just the overall infectious diseases we don't have in America suddenly showing up. Both are directly related to how we let people into the country. We are going to see all kinds of these things happening. This things with the kids is a very close relative of Polio. That was put in check during my growing up days and suddenly, something very much like it is back. It was only a matter of time knowing our government had become so politically correct that these diseases would hit the country. They could be prevented from getting in is my emphasis.

So you really aren't just talking about ebola,

If you are talking about kid's diseases, couldn't some of it becoming back because people don't believe in getting vaccinations anymore? Same thing with flu shots?

Is this something that they talk about on Fox news? I don't watch it, (heck I haven't even been watching MSNBC this past year). I'm just wondering, because I still watch the national news and local and have not heard much about anything but the ebola.

Maybe you don't want to listen. TB is making another run at us and that is directly from the illegal immigrants coming in to the U.S. I heard that on another news station before I heard it on Fox.

You can thank anti-vaccers for the rise measles, whooping cough, rubella and such. Diseases all put "in check" through routine vaccinations during my growing up days.

I guess your correct about the increase, but according to this article it isn't the illegal immigrants that are the problem.

Mel, the thing the kids are getting that seems to be related to polio began at the same time and in a city where the Central American kids were placed. They are known to have this health problem in significant numbers in Central America. It had not been hitting our kids until then. I don't remember all the details but it sure sounds like a cause and effect rather than just a coincidence. When you come from abject poverty and squalor, you will have diseases that a first world country doesn't. While on a cruise, we went snorkeling at a beautiful beach in Roataan off Venezuela. Our guide who was not part of the cruise package brought us through the main town on the way nback to the ship. Driving some of those streets, you saw huts build over rivers or creeks that had sewage going directly into them. Sewage was running down the streets in some area. I have lived near Tijuana all my life and at it's worst, Tijuana never looked as poverty stricken as this cruise ship stop. They daily face disease we have never given a second thought to. Now these kids have literally been dumped into modern cities around the U.S without as much as any kind of health screening. Heaven forbid Ebola ends up in Central America because we are doing nothing to stop the flow of traffic into our country. If anything, we are encouraging it.

    Greetings;

I just knew this was coming.

It was the Republicans that cut the Ebola Budget, I think by 35%. This is according to Democrats. I just heard this today and it was on Fox News. So, it has to be true.

Another thing I heard was that in Liberia, bribes are paid so families can keep Ebola bodies. And, of course the relatives can come to America.

I did hear something on Imus this morning about giving some more money to the World Health Organization or other aid to groups to help them combat the disease issues in Africa before they get here.

Yet it is the conservatives that are criticising this administration for not doing enough. I'm not a big fan of aid for other countries, but if it can be proven to be benifical to our economy and safety, maybe it is not so bad, it does need more scrunity. I do think it is worthy of debate, and if done properly maybe it helps our economy. Also as a portion of our budget it is pretty small.

My thought would be to increase research and encourage efficent delivery systems here in this country, then it could be shipped to areas needing the most help. Our businesses create and lead.

And just a reminder, when President Bush (W) was in office, from what I understand we were sending a lot of money over to Africa to combat Aids.
