I am doing some expert witness work for a private club. A neighbor of the club has brought suit against the club for a noise violation. The neighbor wants the Superintendent to start his staff to work at 8:00 to 10:00 so as not to disturb his morning sleep. Is anyone aware of any examples (other than the courses who work at night) where the staff begins work at 8:00 am or later? I know the answer to this question but I just want to be able to stress my point to in the deposition. Thanks in advance for your replies. Thanks Tommy Witt, CGCS

It seems to me that they did not open the garage doors until 8am at Boca Woods (Boca Raton, FL). I think they got there earlier than that so they could be on the move at 8am though.

I did a noise test at my last club mowing a tee with a Toro 3100. It would not have mattered what time we went out it would have been too loud for the adjacent property about 75 yards away.

We start working about an hour before sunrise. Weekday play starts about an hour after sunrise. Weekend play starts about sunrise.

A large percentage of our revenue is taken in before 11:00 am.

When I was at Ft. McPherson in Atlanta, we couldn't mow 16-18 until 8:00 due to a General that lived on the 17th green not wanting to be woken up. Difference here is the General probably owned guns and we were a contractor for the US Army, who was also his employer. His rank was much higher than us civilians, so we let him sleep in.

We start at 6 AM every morning unless there is a special event.

We are surrounded on 3 sides by houses, one used to be a city councilman, we have never had an issue. (Of course the city councilman probably was happy we were making money on a city course and they didn't have to subsidise us?).

Has been this way everywhere I have worked, houses or no houses.

At the course I worked at we had guys come in for setup earlier than the mowing time and did not start mowers till 7. You may want to consider splitting the crew and having setup prior to the mow time so the course is still prepared for play as best as possible
