I have been using Floratine products for the past three years, however we have recently been consolidated with the AF. My concern is weather or not I'm going to be able to spend the money on Floratine next year. I've switched products before and the quality of our greens just didn't perform like they did with the Floratine products. Does anyone have any recommendations. The Floratine products used are Knife, Renessance, Per 4 Max, Protosyn, Aston, Power 24, Power 22, Power 0-22-28, P-48, and some soil application products. All foliar is being applied at low rates, seven day intervals.

I'm sure with a little research you will find that there are several companies that perform equally to Floratine at a better price. I used to be all Floratine and would spend over $19,000 a year for 27 greens. I have now found an equal to better performing product with all the soil apps and am spending in the $8,000 neighbourhood. good luck

I started using Redox products about 5 years ago and have been amazed at how well they perform. Low cost is definately a bonus as well. The only drawback is that they come in a powderized form instead of a liquid, but who wants to pay for the water anyway, right? I use Rx Supreme, Triplex Micro, Triplex Mag, Turf Ca and PeneCal mainly.

    Rodney,

Do you have any trouble mixing them, clogging your strainer, nozzles, or coagulating in the tank . I've heard redox is an excellent product.

I use some Floratine cause the names are pretty cool.

Its important to buy things like this in order to maintain the illusion of being a doctor of grass. Throwing around gibberellic acid, cytokinins, auxins, growth regulation, some latin terms, and so on really backs people off from thinking anyone can do this job.

I think you should ask your Floratine rep to lower his prices. He's been fleecing you for years, now it's his turn to help you, right?

I was a regualr Floratine user and have replaced several of their products with others. I'd take a hard look at the Redox line as well as what you are geting in the jug. The Power products are basically dissolved urea/ammonium nitrate/potassium nitrate with some "magic" in the jug. After over a year of trying other things, I still use Protesyn (although I'm looking hard at the Redox H85), Per4Max, Astron, and Floradox Pro. Also, my rep gives me a 12% discount just becaue I asked. Never hurts to ask.

Thanks for all the help. I'm considering Redox.

Dave, you're absolutely right. Now I've gotta go out with a 1/2# of Ascophylum nodosum. Good luck at the Falls!

    superfred,

I like your floratine program what rates are you using? how many days apart? When are you applying Aston and Per-4-max? Are you using Primo? I throw in 2oz every 7 days with my program. Also, I have used Coron 14-2-14 when I was in Maryland on bentgrass fwy's and really liked the results.

    Probably never used it, huh?

I always laugh at the guys that think Floratine is simply Urea, and the only product on the market that contains it.

Look at the label of pretty much any liquid fertilizer. You'll find Urea. Any why? It's cheap and effective. If you sold a product you'd want to keep your cost of goods down, right?

Was that a shot or do you agree on Urea's effectiveness? Our local extension service recommends urea only for spoonfeeding after testing all of the liquid/bio things on the market. I'm not saying Floratine or the other spoon fed products don't work but it isn't right for the golf course I am tasked to manage. Floratine may be super but I know what I'm getting out of urea and I like what I see. Why change?

I agree, Urea works wonders. As does the Floratine products, Griggs, Redox, etc....but, I don't think you can compare a Floratine program, let alone any of their single products, with straight Urea.

It wasn't a shot at you personally. It seems like everytime someone mentions Floratine, someone else chimes in with the Urea jargon. 9 times out of 10 they have probably never had first hand experience using the product. The original question was about Floratine, not Urea.

Other than the high salt index, I like Urea too. Cheap. $16 a bag, melts right down, and gives you a good jump when you need it. But, for regular foliar sprays, we usually have some kind of Floratine product in the tank, not just Urea.

I have tried them all and done so for a good period of time. The bottom line for me right now is I cannot afford any frills. It is either make it work the old fashioned way or let employees go. I knew a guy in central Florida who fertilized his course all year (1995) with $6000 worth of Ammonium nitrate. That was the only fertilizer he used and he looked okay. Superintendents are amazing at all positions of the economic spectrum.

I know guys on the Floratine, Redox, Griggs stuff and they are happy and the courses invariably look terrific. Like I said it's just not right for the golf course where I work.

I use Astron, Protesyn, and Knife Plus with my nitrogen coming from a product called N-Sure. I'm thinking about going away from the Knife plus though. I have great greens and the cost isn't really that bad.

I am going to aerify three times this year I started the year with 5\8 " deep tine I am aerifying next monday night on the 4th of July with quad blocks and 1\4 " tines and one more scheduled for August 15th with the same tines. We also verticut every other week and topdress pretty heavy. I only like to dust them if I have a tournament other wise I feel im wasting my time with a dusting. I am very fortunate to have a great friend that is my golf pro who understands why we do what we do

Thanks for the help guys, however I just don't think I can streer awary from Floratine completely. Floratine, in my opinion is the best product on the market. I do believe this do to the fact that I have switched product in the past and the results just don't compare. I may sneek a few others in the program to alleviete some of the floratine products, however I will continue to use the line up of Biostimulants....I just can't switch, we love Floratine here.

Use Griggs products on bentgrass, I cant answer for bermuda personally. Floratine reps have you tank mixing 19 things and spending two hours trying to get a tank ready to spray. Try Griggs, you'll spend less tank mixing less for better results.

If you are mixing 19 things, either you have a great salesman or you are a chump, or both.

We use Floratine products. We also use products from other vendors. Some of you may remember that Floratine used to not have an N product. Now they do. I've used it, but now I use an alternative product that is cheaper and provides some longer lasting Nitrogen. They have some good products, and like others have mentioned, you don't have to use their full line-up. Supplement with what you feel comfortable with.

We all have opinions. But then again, I've never heard of someone that routinely used Floratine products that switched to another line because their greens sucked.

I use a lot of Floratine products too, always have and probably always will, I have 3.75 acres of greens and my program is. Weekly=3 jugs of Power 12-6-0, 1 Jug of PK Fight, 1 Jug Astron, 1 jug Protosyn,1/2 jug of Pervade bi-weekly and alternate Knife plus and Renaissance every other week. When it's hot like it's been, I take out 1 jug of 12-6-0 and add 1 more jug of Protosyn and 1 jug of Perk-up and stick with renaissance!

What he said. I really like Perk Up when it hot. I push my greens with 23-0-0, Knife plus, Per-4-max, Protosyn 10 days prior, and the day before we aerate. Hole close up in no time flat. I use Analync program to tweak my regimen in May and stick with it throughout the year, with except I pull out he astron when its hot and use perk up. Happy Foliar (ing)! :D
