The Weather is Unpredictable: Resources are here for you!

Midwest Flooding

Summer is here. It's upon us. Traveling around the region, it's a mixed bag. Southern portions of the Central Plains are dry and it's been HOT. In Iowa, there has been plenty of rain and now a big period of heat has domed the area.

In Minnesota, we've seen torrential rains in the Southwestern part of the state.  Redwood Falls, Marshall and other communities in the area have been hit hard. Mark Jacobs is a GCSAA Class A member at Redwood Falls GC. The course is closed as rising waters recede.

Aaron Johnson, CGCS from Dacotah Ridge GC in Morton, Minn. (just minutes from Redwood Falls) has received rain, but not near the extent of others in the area.

"Our course drains pretty well. We did not receive as much rain as others," he said.

Class A member Terry Negan of the Marshall golf club mentions the rains have hit hard there, but the crew is doing its best.

"Our course will be closed for the next three to four days and there is standing water on a few holes," he noted.  "Overall we should be fine."

Of those I was able to connect with, no one mentioned any personal property loss.  There is flooding in residential basements in some areas.

Fortunately, the forecast looks good, but that can be deceiving.

"We only had a 10 percent chance of rain July 2 and that's when all the rain it.  You just never know," stated Johnson.

GCSAA is here to help. There are opportunities to aide members who lose personal property or are displaced because of natural causes.
