I manage Meyer zoysia tees and fairways. I am looking for a product to help me in the fall to kill green poa plants. I have been using round up in February for years and it doesn't seem to kill the larger plants. I want to look cleaner when I go totally dormant. I have cool season roughs. Any advise?

There was a really good webinar last week on herbicide resistance and it sounds like that is what you are dealing with. They offer some great advice on alternatives and rotation of herbicides

    Larry,
Revolver should work on your poa problem.

Revolver or Monument. Revolver can track fairly easily for a couple of days if you have cool season roughs.

Simazine at $4.30 an acre is hard to beat. I spray it as soon as I see poa germinating, it also kills most winter broadleaves. I spray it on non dormant zoysia and bermuda with no issues.

Simazine will move on you so I would be careful with your cool season roughs!!!!

Shout out to Larry for the mention of the webcast on Herbicide Resistance. He is spot on from what we heard on that issue from Jim Brosnan, Ph.D. The access link to that recording is here:

Let me take it another step - Fred Yelverton, Ph.D., taught a webcast on Oct. 30 titled Reducing Poa annua on Your Golf Course which has a discussion of methods, including a section specifically on zoysia. That recording is here:

These are available at no charge to members and you earn education points, too.

    Thanks again, Larry.

Revolver will kill any active poa but don't get close to your greens or it will leach and kill bentgrass. We use Specticle by Bayer for our fall pre-emerge and have had great results with it. Bayer provides a guarantee as long you apply it within its recommended window. It is a root pruner so be careful in weak areas. Good luck Sexton!
