   We have been recycling aluminum cans now for the last couple of years. I am trying to find or make a can smashing unit. any of u guys know or have any ideas besides having your crew having a mexican smash dance?

   Spread them in the parking lot and run over them with a tractor.
   
   You might want to look into recycling all of your scrap metal too. Much more lucrative and a lot less mess and requires less space. We recycle every piece of scrap metal we have including bedknives, reels, rotary blades, etc... We probably get about $8,000 a year from it, and have acquired two plastic pallet bins to hold it as well as a large event grill for our cookouts. And when we cookout, we eat good.

   We used to smash our like Andy, those wide turf tires gets a lot of cans.

   Just a funny story. I never invented a good method. Used to keep a sledge hammer by the bin or use a boot heel. After big outings we would dump them on asphalt and use a tractor tire. Had my pro's son working one summer. I watched him stand about 50 cans on end in the back of a Cushman. He picked up the sledge hammer and when he smashed the first can the other 49 fell over with the whole crew watching. "The apple didn't fall far from the tree" between the pro and his son.    I also remember taking a big load of smashed cans to the Recycling Center, I mean about ten barrels, a whole truck load, and while at the scales watching the proverbial little old lady waiting behind me with about 1/2 lb. of cans in a plastic shopping bag.    I have staff sort through the garbage on a daily basis. Usually we just throw the cans into the back of a workman and place plastic and garbage in sepeate bins. When we are finished we just have a few "lucky" crew members stomp around till they are all crushed, then dump the box into an empty mail sack that you may find at the local post office. The sacks are probably 3'x3'x4'. The local recycling area just weighs it, gives us our money, and everytime we return gives us a new one. Money is used for maintence lunch and family get togathers.
