What are you using for control of sedges in Bermuda grass? In the past we have used Monument and had good control. This year I am thinking of trying Dismiss South and wanted to hear others results from Dismiss and other Herbicides.

My experience nothing beats Monument. Dismiss is effective but less so and only at the highest rate.

Monument works great, but we had good control around our bent greens earlier this season with lower rates(bentgrass label rate) of Certainty applied with MSO(quart/acre).
Be careful though, bentgrass does not like it, and it can move.

Monument or Certainty would be my choices

I use MSMA at 1oz/m tank mixed with dismiss South at 14.4oz/acre. Then 90 days later make the application again at MSMA 1oz/m tank mixed with dismiss at 9oz/a. I start this application in early spring, however this will set back my spring green up in the fairways. This will get me control up until dormancy. However this is a military course so I can get away with making these early applications and delay my green up a bit. I'm sure the guys @ the higher end facility's would get reamed for this.

Hello everyone. I am looking for some ideas for an affordable broadcast treatment of sedges in my roughs/ fairways . We are a South Florida private club with wall to wall 419 Bermuda (except greens) and we get every type of sedge including kyllinga. Due to the copious amounts of rain we've received, coupled with the fact my last pre emergent spray has definitely worn off, we have quite a bit of sedge popping up in the wetter areas of our rough.

I have been spot treating in the fairways with a Certainty/ Dismiss/ Pre-M mixture but that mix is a little pricey when it come to treating larger areas. Any thoughts would be much obliged

    Thanks,

We have been using Monument from Syngenta with good result on purple and yellow nut-sedge. Not sure if it is labeled for your area. We have to re-treat same areas every summer but there is less and less each year. We now carry little spray bottles when we make our rounds in the morning and blast it as we see it. This saves us from marking it and sending an employee back to spray it later. The bottles need to be clearly marked and we carry a label with us in case we run into the AG commissioner. Good luck!

Try a wall to wall of Echelon, it works pretty well here.

I've had great control from Dismiss South. Although it's somewhat expensive, I've found you don't need to use a full label rate. 10 oz/Acre will knock it out pretty good. It will burn 419 though so you'd probably want to avoid using it during the winter down there. In the summer you'll grow out of the burn pretty quick, just depends on your tolerance for discoloration.

We use Monument as well here in South GA with great results. Smokes out the kyllinga as well. May be a little pricey to spray wall-to-wall, but great for spot spraying. A little surfactant wouldn't hurt either if you're getting quite a bit of rainfall.

Second the echelon. If you are going to put out a bulk fertilizer this fall, you can have it sparged onto your fertilizer. It would help kill all the sedge and help out with any poa you might have this winter from the prodiamine in the echelon.

    Skip,
If your looking to spend a little less on treatments your have to expect less results. Monument, Certanity, Sedge Hammer and Dismiss are great products but can be pricey if your bulk spraying. Basagran or LescoGran will control several sedges and broadleafs in one to two applications. It doesn't do very well on Purple Nutsedge but it will set it back until you get into drier weather. 32 oz / acre Basagran with a Seed Oil at label rates works well on Bermuda and St. Augustine. You can add 2,4-D to help with any boradleafs, but don't add seed oil if you do that due to some Phyto. Skip the St. Augustine with 2,4-d as well.

    Basagran $120 gallon. 32 oz / Acre = $30 per acre X 2 apps = $60 Acre
Most of the other products are $80-$100+ per acre to treat with, but do a very good job.
