    Hi, from downunder.
I was wondering if anyone has experienced a specific problem we've noticed with our newer Flex 21 greens walkbehind mowers, namely, the drive shaft and roller bearing failing, the shaft dropping and jamming onto the bottom of the housing. If the shaft/bearing fails while mowing, the operator can be given an abrupt jolt and the mower actually starts to drive in the reverse direction. Has anyone else experienced this or similar with these types of mowers? We are wondering why the bearing is failing given they are regularly serviced and with correct oil etc. Is this a faulty part, or are the shafts made of inferior steel in the newer models? This has not been the case with our older units.
    Cheers

What kind of hours on the machines? We run 10 flex 21's with 1100 to 1600 hours on them, and have had to replace a few of the drum bearings. They are a sealed bearing, so with a decent amount of hours / years on them I would expect to replace them. When servicing these units, the technicians should be grabbing the drum and trying to feel any play in the drum, if so replace your bearings then and it will save you from the down time in the field.

I will add that I haven't had one start moving in the reverse direction.
