IM just wondering what a good starter number is for annual amounts of USGA Spec topdressing applied on Penncross greens in the upper midwest? Going to get a new spin topdresser so we can actually do light applications rather than the old cushman drop. I would like to do between 1/16 and 1/32 of an inch per m2 per app between coring in the aeration in the spring and fall. I cant remember what a good target amount is per year??? Any help would be great!!

Dr. Gaussoin's research at Nebraska is showing that courses with o.m. under 2.5% are applying 20 to 25 cubic feet per thousand over a 6 month growing season. We've been applying in that range and testing o.m. over the past four years and have held steady at about 3%.

I converted to metric to make sense for me If you apply 22.5 cubic feet of sand per 1000 it comes to 2.4 inches of sand in height. So if you did 12 apps it would be .2 inches per app. I think my numbers are right. My greens came in a few weeks ago at 1.9% OM with maybe 6 light topdressings per year, only 4solid tinings and 2 times per year with my BIO-RAIN program. It works for the general manager and director of golf for much less disruption.

    0,637393768 cubic meters per 1000 sq feet ( M )
    61,22154391 cubic meters per hectare
    10000 sq meters per hectare
6,122154391 cms of sand in height
    2,410297004 inches
    1 cubic meter = 35,3 cubic ft
    43,56 M per acre
    2,205 acres per hectare
    96,0498 M per hectare

    Aaron,

I spin topdress 90,000 M every week from April till November and use approx. 60 tons of sand.

I use just about %$#&*(*^*)^)^)^$@$^&*) that much. Honestly I have no idea exactly how much I use. I bury them a lot during aerification spring and fall. Through out the season I lightly topdress to the point when I can brush it with my hand and it disappears. I do this as many times as I can within a season, depending on available labor, temperature. I've always wanted to know how much sand I was putting down but with my topdresser I can't see how to figure it out.
