Looking for cost effective ideas for tracking fuel. The fuel sheets are being used, but i was looking for a card dispensing system or a cheap wireless camera option. A computer for direct operator entry is not an option, and there is no "extra guy" to monitor all activity at the fuel pad as closely as we would like. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

We use a system from SCI that is connected via ethernet cable back to our network. It uses rings on each piece of equipment to identify where the fuel is going, and a code for each operator to know who got the fuel and when. Even though it is all electronic, it still fails and we continue to do manual sheets to double check everything. We also have several cameras pointed at our pumps. Even with all this, we still have at least one person that tries to steal fuel each year. It's just easier to catch them when it happens. It's not if, but when we catch them.

    Andy,

Do you remember what the cost was for that system? I have been thinking about looking into something like that, But don't want to spend a lot of time investigating if cost is prohibitive for my budget.
    Thanks

It wasn't cheap. None of the systems are. We have over 400 pieces of equipment, vehicles, etc....and each one needed a ring that averages about $50. That was the most expensive part. If you are only doing a few dozen pieces of equipment, it might be more affordable.

Same thing here. We have got about 250 pieces. It can be tracked by equipment or person. I get a digital print out every month. Makes budgeting easy.[attachment=0">2013-01-14_07-33-35_382.jpg[/attachment">
