I need some help, guys. I am looking for a heavy duty cart for my ball picker. My range is about 10 acres, the cart is used 8 hours a day 7 days a week in season. The surface is horrible. There is not much grass, alot of dirt, soil, sand, weeds, etc. I have a 4 year old Turf 2 which is destroyed. I am thinking bigger, maybe the Kubota, Polaris, or something like that. Any help would be useful.

I remember a range at a New Jersey course I worked at used an old mail jeep.

Also another course I was at we had a large picker and used a tractor to pick the range, only became a big issue during leaf season.

We use an old toro rough unit without the decks. It is 4wd and the steering in the back really works well with the picker.

Find an old, cheap S10 or similar truck with a bunch of miles on it. Strip off the stuff you don't need i.e radio, a/c, wipers, lights throw some weight in the bed if not 4wd. We push 9 gangs on an 9 acre range, picks up 6000 balls in an hour.

No radio? Well I guess they can use their iPods

A small tractor is the answer.

Carryalls are great for some things, but as ball pickers at a busy driving range, they don't last. I used to work for a golf course that had one of the busiest driving ranges around and the only machine that lasted was a tractor. You need a machine that is built for continuous use and has a liquid cooled engine. I read somebody mentioned an old fairway mower, that would be perfect. These machines were built for hours of use. Club Cars, EZ Gos, Yamahas, Deere Gators, just don't last. I have seen them work for about a year, but the abuse catches up with them. Even though they are classified as a utility vehicle, they are still just an amped up golf cart that was designed to travel a short distance and stop to cool off. When pushing the ball picker full of golf balls, it wears the engines and transmission down rapidly. Good luck.
