Just wondering if anyone would share their templates for staff evaluations? I'm new to my particular course and was given an evaluation sheet from the GM that the course had used previous. I find the one I have isn't really golf maintenance specific. If anyone out there would care to share the one they use it would be much appreciated.

    Thank you

Whatever you do, make something that is as simple as possible but still provides relevant information. Ours ends up being 7 pages long when we get done and is a nightmare to complete. It is what was provided to me. Imagine having to come up with three goals and 7 pages worth of information for an employee that only mows greens four days a week and that's it.

When we get on a run of doing 7-8 a day, some of the answers look identical, but are worded slightly different.

I asked this similar question a while back, and some quite interesting answers. Almost a year later, we're still in the same process at our Park District... I don't remember the exact wording of the forum topic, employee self evaluations or something like that.

Nobody here can come up with a decent solution. However, this has become HR's pet project.....and they have yet to show us anything of substance. But it's their opinion we all should go to classes to evaluate employees.

But, in one of our current proposed evaluations, 3 new goals to a seasonal hourly employee...step back and think about that. Really...?

I'm happy if employees show up for work at 5 AM on the weekends and can cut a straight line...

Contrary to popular business beliefs, sometimes doing what we do to MAINTAIN the golf course is what it's all about, not constantly doing proposed improvements...

After doing employee reviews for years I've come to the conclusion that we are creatures of habit and nobody ever really changes. It's a rare breed that can accept constructive criticism and change for the better. Once a space cadet, always a space cadet.

I tried this awhile back and found it too time consuming and essentially a waste of time. I go with the "constant monitoring". If I see something I like, I say so. If I see something I don't like, I say so.

Just being on top of the staff will let them know where they stand at all times and a few words here and there count for as much as pages of blah, blah. JMHO

If I had a bigger staff and more time to devote to such things, more full time year round staff, I would alter my approach a little, but still it would be 1-2 pages max, and simple.
