Looking at purchasing a Toro TriFlex 3300 and not sure how many blades are best for mowing Poa/Bent greens at .125. Any Suggestions. Really liked how the 15 blade Eclipse mowed in the demo but just not ready to go all hybrid.

Toro states that the 14 blade reels are for heights at or below .100. If you're going to stay at .125 the 11 blade reel would likely be your best choice due to keeping the correct clip rate for the height you're cutting at.

We have had 14s since I got here nearly 4 years ago. We have 4, 11 blade Flexes that we use right after topdressing. The 11's pick up less sand, not nearly as good of a cut, but also allow us to not destroy our 14's. Our heights range from <.100 to .130. I swear by the 14's, year round, at any height. We are allowed to mow higher, cut more grass and have a better cut. 11 blades are for tees, fairways and approaches. Just my opinion.

We have the 14 blade cutting units on are Toro greensmower and we cut them at .125 and don't have any issue. They are a great cut and the turf is really tight. I don't think you would go wrong with getting the 14 blade units. Hope this helps.

You will be fine with the 14 blade, and much happier you did in the long run.

Your best cut is achieved when your clip rate equals your HOC. Has always been that way and will always be that way. If not the equipment manufacturers would not be putting the speed control for the reels on the units. They are trying to match the clip rate to your HOC. Check your desired speed, and your HOC range and compare that to the clip rate chart. On greens you should be fine. But more blades does not mean better in every case. An 11 blade reel on .550 at 6.5 mph, mowing 3 days a week on burnt in lines is going to marsielle like you won't believe. Same scenario at 3 mph and a totally different outcome. It is all relative to clip rate/HOC.
