I have an chance to purchase a set of vibratory rollers or a set of non-vibratory for Toro triplex. I have never used either of them.
    Pros/cons of each?
Will I gain some green speed?
Which offers a better smoothing roll?

I would buy the Vibratory. They are great for working sand in after topdressing plus regular rolling. Really helpful after aerification getting sand in the holes and breaking up any bridging from wet sand.

I had an intern here in 2007 and his work-study was done on rolling and green speed. We used triplex mounted weighted rollers, vibe rollers and a Salsco. The results were that they all produced green speeds in the same range (negligible between the 3 units). We have both weighted and vibes and didn't purchase the Salsco because of safety issues around some of our greens. Weighted rollers would need to be on a 3 wheel drive traction unit if you have slopes around greens. But they are relatively maintenance free and my mechanic likes that. The vibe rollers are high maintenance and almost require regular setup (much like a reel) if you are going to use them regularly. There are a few wear items that we have to keep in stock because out type of vibe head isn't immediately distributed in Canada (done thru 3rd party Toro rep). As for sand distribution, I have actually found that they stir up the sand rather than move it into the canopy. We won't use them on sand anymore.

I prefer the vibratory rollers. The golfers really notice when we use ours as they increase green speed and smoothness. We try to roll 4 times per week in the prime season.

We did not get as much speed out of non vibe rollers on the greensking but ours were not overly heavy.

We use them after topdressing. I am not sure they work the sand in all that much but it is better than doing nothing the days immediately following topdressing.

We have two sets of rollers both over 14 years old. We have put bearings, belts and rubber isolators in them every three years or so but do not have many in season problems.

Definitely vibratory rollers. Have found that they do not stress the turf during the summer months nearly what a salsco would. Also during the winter they are better for your collars/surrounds when it comes to wear. Would recommend getting a brush attachment for the front if you want to use post-topdressing for getting sand into the canopy.
