    Eclipse 322,

We have been having some issues with our Eclipse 322 scalping the clean up pass. The suggestions was to convert to segmented rollers, however I have been in the business for a long time and have never used a segmented roller. We were using the same wiley roller when we purchased the eclipse with no issues, however we have dropped the height since the day of purchase from .190 to .140. Has anyone else had a problem with the clean up scalping @ these heights on tifdwarf greens?

When I first started at this course every August the greens were known for scalping. It seems that in August the grass becomes a little "puffier" and the surface feels "spongy." We aggressively vertical mow and topdress right at the end of July. This includes vertical mowing the cleanup lap. Before, raising and lowering the mowing height had been done to try to alleviate the scalping but to no avail. Since we have implemented this practice all of our scalping has disappeared. We are currently mowing at .125 now and scalp free.
On a side note we demoed an Eclipse and I had the same issues. I did not attribute the scalping solely to the Jacobsen because our current mower had down the same thing the day before. But I found that slowing the ground speed and clip rate seemed to help a little. Hope this helps.
