Oh, Ryan...you have truly opened the door here.......

    1. What is your handicap?
    2. If your handicap is that high, should anyone value your opinion?

Our last survey - mailed out to the membership last week, asked:

    1) Which day do you prefer the course to be closed for maintenance?
    2) D0 you think the fairways are maintained too long, or too short?
    3) What improvements, within reason, would you like to see performed?

There were some other questions I wanted to put on it, but the boss didn't agree.

    1) do you know how to fix a ball mark?
    2) do you think I really care about how your course up north does it?
    3) can you at least once park on the cart path in an 18 hole round?
    4) where do you want my staff to go when you tee off so that you aren't "disturbed"?
    5) do you even have a clue as to what Aerification is?

    1) Can you describe what "directly proportional" means?

    2) When is stimping fairways okay?

    3) When should "NO CARTS" be disregarded?

    4) What's too green?

Funny how that goes both ways.

I had a member that was a seasonal snowbird and spent time up north each summer. She came back down one year in early September and wondered why we were aerifying when her course up north doesn't do it until October. She thought we were doing it wrong. I tried explaining, but like many things, she believed what she wanted to believe.

This is also the same member that swears up and down we never aerified before until that year.

I have members who are quite certain we should regrass with Seashore Paspalum because then we could irrigate with seawater and not waste fresh water. Explaining the lack of seawater within 1000 miles did not deter this individual

Larry, the paspalum would look just great during your winter too.

I want to do some signs like

    SCATTER in giant print with

brain in tiny print below it

Then another sign DON´T GO THERE in giant print

I did a really good traffic control program this year with ropes and troublesome as they can be. It really helped.

These little green and white stakes from Par Aide have also helped a lot.

    Saludos members are a scourge!!

I have an especially offensive snowbird who bought into some golfing community in Florida recently, and he now wants me to "seriously consider" using the same kind of landscape stone they use for the condo he bought because it looks so good and, etc. etc.
We are a 95 year old club that relishes it's heritage and use of native blue shale rock for construction, wall building, hardscape..
The fab rock he's suggesting is made to look like light brown sandstone. He thinks I'm not seeing the big picture.
Same guy who wants to re-institute having member surveys again (because nobody listens to him).

I have sympathy for guys and gals who are forced to do these surveys by their members or by some form of upper management looking for more blood from the stone, but my experience with them is they yield junk data and are a poor excuse for face to face contact and communication.

Kind of like our annual membership meetings that turn into "what happened last week" b*&^% fest.
