    lightning detection systems?

We have been approached by this company about installing lightning detection system on our course for free! basically they want part of our land as well as utilities in exchange for us being able to monitor lightning in our area over the internet.

I have just read their contract and really do not like what I see.

I plan on having them come out and install it here. Our club lawyers read the contract and don't see any big negatives to it; just a few wording changes that will be made. Seems like a win-win situation.

This was discussed at last nights meeting and the decision was to not install the system. While it appears to be a win win for everyone we looked at the flip side of the issue. Once we have lightning detection and start blowing horns for people to get off the course we are liable if our staff does not blow the horn and someone gets struck by lightning. All you get in return for them setting up the equipment is the ability to see over the internet if you have lightning in the area and they state that it is not foolproof. We did not see enough reason to give them access to our internet hookups and power supplies for little in return as well as the liability if our employees get lazy (remember it will have to be monitored by staff whenever the course is open for play). How well does your golf shop monitor lightning now? do they already blow a horn? will it become a major pain in the rear to keep them monitoring it?
