    Hi all,

I just double checked the label and did not come across the statement, but I always remembered if I heard right that Primo is foliar absorbed and it only had to set a couple hours on the plant?

I usually always mix with a fungicide/fertilizer that is a contact or foliar absorbed and do not water in for a day or two, longer if possible.

My question is, I am needed to make a fairy ring preventative application (Torque) and I wondered about adding Primo to it. I would let it sit all day and then run an irrigation cycle first thing in the AM to wash the fairy ring product in. Can anyone tell me if I'm good?

    Thanks!

I do this with Primo (or generic version) practically every application and get good regulation. I also do the same with fungicides to get dollar spot control but also patch control by watering in. Probably lose some efficacy but seems to work for me.

I dont have any documentation to support, but have been told primo is absorbed in 15 minutes.

I have applied Primo during the day and watered at night or early the next am. I have never noticed any difference in the results when watering that evening or after 2-3 days. I believe I get the same growth regulation either way.

I'm not 100% on Torque, but I know most DMI fungicides indicate holding off on plant growth regulators a few weeks before and after the application. If it was me, I would skip the Primo.

    Thanks Andy for mentioning that.

I never thought about that issue because the only DMI's I use if for Fairy Ring preventative and I have always done that alone because of timing.

Spring sprung a little late this year for us, plus I was out until late March, and with a ton of different applications going on at the 2 courses I'm working right now I was trying anything to combine applications.

    Thanks all for your feedback!

For years I have applied Primo mixed with propaconazole, (a DMI, I believe, on Poa/bent greens) and never any bad effects.

Not a recommendation, mind you, merely an observation.

I have always put Primo in with a DMI as long as its not in the warmer months, I dont think it matters. Then i'm not using DMIs anyway.

I applied 2 apps of tebuconazole to control waited patch last spring. Those 2 apps came between my primo/proxy apps, and I've never seen such extreme regulation in my life. Being early in the spring I didn't expect the effects to be too bad, wrong. Choosing to go with Embark for seed head control this spring instead. At least I won't stress out for three weeks waiting for the poa to recover.

Fairy Ring control needs to be watered in lightly immediately.

I mix in Hydra Hume (Humic Acid) with my Torque Fungicide applications. After 3 applications 5 years ago, I have not had Fairy Ring on my greens. I use Torque throughout the year and have not had any problems at all, even with the application of Primo Maxx. I guess I have been lucky.

I have to say, all Torque applications I have made, I didn't water in immediately, it would be the next early morning and I haven't had any issues of it not working. And we had fairy ring pop up before we went onto Dr. Lee Miller's program of using a Fairy Ring product (the T's or Bayleton) followed by a wetting agent 2 weeks after, followed another 2 weeks of the 2nd fairy ring application, followed by another wetting agent application. Then wetting agent every 28 days after that.

    Mel,

What GPA do you spray? Ever do check to determine fairy ring pressure or consider going with product not labeled for fairy ring for same reason? I've had high fairy ring pressure and am basing comment on recommendations from both academic and USGA sources. Good combo for Cutless or Paclo ...not so much Primo

Keith I spray at 65 gallons per acre, probably on the lite side, do not check to determine pressure, have never sprayed Torque with Primo before. While research at Mizzou has shown some dollar spot control effectiveness with the fairy ring products, I still will treat around the fairy ring application with Daconil Action to get at least 10- 14 day control of dollar spot. I will rotate that with Emerald in the spring, and will go with Xzemplar in the summer. I only had one breakout of dollar spot last year which Xzemplar cleaned up in 7 days, and didn't see it again all season. Haven't seen fairy ring in about 5 years (or for however long Dr. MIller has been at Missou)

    Mel,

If it makes you feel better. I have sprayed proxy with primo one week and then followed the next week with a 1 oz. rate of Bayleton for fairyring. I then wait two weeks and do it again. My bent is heavily regulated right now, but I know they will improve once I get through my Bayleton treatments. Spring is tough because of all the things we have to do to our greens. This combo is not the best for color, but good for putting. Hope this helps you nurves.

I was spraying fairways one summer as rain approached. I decided to keep spraying until it rained just to see if I could test how long the primo needed to sit to be rain-fast. After a few days you could have painted a line down the fairway from before the rain until after it started. Based on my unscientific test, as long as it is not raining on you while you apply it, it is going to work fine.

Whats the point of watering in Primo? Isn't it absorbed through the leaves and not taken by the roots?

I was asked by a fellow super just the other day about watering in Tourney for fairy ring. He was told to let it dry for a few hrs and then water. Letting it dry gives you some dollar spot control. I totally agree but I suggested not to let anything dry and water immediately. My question was why are you putting Tourney down? Dollar Spot or Fairy Ring.
His answer Fairy Ring. Then water water water. I'm sure you have other products that covers dollar spot. Whats more expensive and harder to control. Fairy Ring or Dollar Spot?

If your main goal is to control Fairy Ring, water immediately. If you want to risk the chance of getting Fairy Ring then hold off with the water and get some dollar spot control. I don't see the risk/reward here.

I agree. spray your fairy ring app and consider using paclobutrazol for regulation and water in right away.

Thanks for the replies, it has been a trying week and trying to get applications timed properly at two different courses, one I'm not as familiar with, while using products I'm comfortable with has been a challenge.

Any comments on Velista? I'm going to check that label too. Have my Torque down at one course but I'm afraid I'm missing the window for preventive at the other place, we did get our dollar spot and Primo down though. Was a little concerned as they are lean on N.

I plan on asking Dr. Miller as well.

    Thanks!
