Anyone used the new DOW herbicide, Defendor? I am getting ready to use if for the first time this fall. I have always been a huge Coolpower user but always fought leaf drop and felt I was getting it out too late. This new product is suppose to work great in cold weather. Can anyone educate me on results? Is it slow? What do the weeds look like as they fade away? I am going to tank mix it with prodiamine and hope to begin spraying the week after Thanksgiving.

I have not used yet, but just ordered for fairways next year as it calls for extended control. Let me know how it goes.

I was just informed of this product the other day and was told it works great but is really slow.

I think it was available in MD last year. From what I've heard it does not provide a high level of weed control yet it really reduces flowers the next spring. I had a slide in a ppt presentation I will attach here. I have not worked with Defender though, this is just what I've heard from others. Kenneth Ingram, UMD

I wanted to update everyone on our Defendor herbicide usage. I was walking around our course today to find that all of the weeds that I thought would never go away back in November have disappeared! This tells me that it is a really, really, really, slow herbicide but the results are excellent. As I walked around today, I find my roughs to be as clean as they ever had in the past using cool power. The Defendor is also cheaper than that of the cool power. This is defiantly a tool to help us in the future. I would recommend it to anyone. Now we are going to try it on our green, zoysia fairways this spring to clean up any late emerging broadleafs.

    Hello Jeff,

For what weeds was it effective, and how much and how many times did you apply it?

    Thanks

    Mike,

We applied one 4 oz. rate this fall. Mostly clover and dandelion. Smokes clover.
Cleaned up dandelion too but very slow. Probably one of the slowest broadleaf herbicide I have ever worked with.

I have used it for the last two seasons. Previously packaged with Dimension, it appears you can now purchase it on its own and mix whatever pre-emergent grassy weed product you prefer. Both years results have been outstanding. I put it down before I even see dandelions pop and have only seen a handful of dandelions on all of the properties I treated with it. Also great on clover. Better as a pre than a post in my opinion, and if you already have weeds popping there are faster acting options available at a lesser cost.
