I figured I would share this video I put together yesterday on how we parallel the John Deere QA5 reels. It's a great process and I think the video came out well for using the iPhone.

This is a very detailed way of setting up cutting units. I thought our way was pretty accurate, and it is, but this is spot on. Doesn't get more accurte than this. Thanks for sharing your video with us:)

Very informative! It brings several questions to mind though. Did you fabricate the stone/lock table yourself? Where did you get the device for measuring on the top of the roller? Looks like a fabulous set up!

I have a simalr setup. You buy the stand and block, and the clamps. Most of the products can be purchased through MSC Direct. You fab your reel stand where he is checking the cut and hoc, and the brackets you attach the clamps to. The dial indicator can also be purchased through MSC. You can get them through other vendors, but MSC has the best pricing. It really is a great system. We are using this method now, and are primarely doing this process to any cutting units that mow under 400. Right now anything above 400 is squared on our SIP grinders. As we move forward in the future we may end up doing it on all cutting units, but the lower you mow the more accurate you need to be, and this is the most accurate system. I really dont think that it adds that much more time to the setup process.

Thanks for the comments. As Skip said the granite, table, lock down brackets, dial indicator and base all come from MSC Industrial. The platform for checking the cut we built and painted to match the table. It is bolted on vs welded on in case it needs to be replaced at some point. When making the platform it is important that everything is level or the reel will roll around when you are trying to work on it.
