Been hearing a few shows lately on challenging norms in thinking about simple everyday stuff that I've been taking for granted. DRM is one, Switching away from paper/coin currency was another I hadn't been thinking about until recently.
I'm finding the whole discussion about ownership and possession as it relates to idea and thought, a pretty fascinating topic. There's a lot to be said for the concept of "authenticity" as being, centrally, one of the only things that can be "true". Whether it's something that you can hold, hear, think, or speak. Where it comes from, why, and who (or what) it comes from is important stuff.
Reminds me of a quote I saw the other week from GBS -- "If you have an apple and I have an apple and we exchange these apples then you and I will still each have one apple. But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas."
