Since our resort has won the 2018 Winter Olympics, I have been asked to put the Olympic rings into the 18th fairway of our public course.
Never have done this before and wanted to get some ideas..
We are hybrid bluegrass fairways in a climate that wold be similar to the upper North East US or Canada.
My thoughts are to make a template out of plywood that would link together and spray Iron every couple of weeks.
This will not only be seen by golfers but just about all visitors who come to look at all the Olympic venues.

    thanks for your help,

Brian is right. I had cool season BP one year that looked just like the Olympic flag. The Ballantine Beer logo looked like it also, some old guys used to call cool season BP "Ballantine Rings"

Tim look for a book by the Boston Red Sox groundskeeper David Mellor called Perfect Picture Mowing Techniques or something along those lines. He has some great ideas. A template is the way to go but plywood will be heavy. They make large plastic sheets for the stadiums. Our field manager here at UMD has several. We brought them over to the golf course for the Nationwide event and painted a couple of fairways and the range with "Terps" in about 8' letters. I could ask Jeremy who makes those templates. You also need a pretty steep hillside for visiblity. You probably have plenty of hills in Korea. I like stuff like this and feel the PGA Tour is missing out also. Good luck. Kenneth Ingram, UMD

I use these guys for everything. They can custom make stencils for you and tell you the best way of going about implementing the design. http://www.usspecialtycoatings.com/

This is a picture of #16 Fairway. We did this for the 4th of July at Oglebay Resort The Palmer Golf course. We made a stencil out of plywood for the star design and used hoses, brooms, and mowers to direct the grass all one direction. We plan on making this a yearly tradition with the possibility of adding more stars. Also for an upcoming event "Drive for the Cure" we plan on placing "The Cure Ribbon" on a fairway. Pictures will follow shortly afterwards.

Contact Roger Meier at Valhalla in Louisville Kentucky. He did their bird logo in #18 fairway during the 72nd Senior Championship. Used GPS mapping I believe.

    Tim,

We have demonstrated logo carving capability with the RG3 robotic greens mower. Here is a link to a YouTube video where we cut the name/logo for an advertising conference in a back yard. This logo was 75' x125'.

    Enjoy!

    Tim,

We draw all of our logos on on 1.25" square graph paper. We draw a x and y axis on the logo. Each square represents 1' in the real world. We just do our measurements in the field and then make our paint marks. It sounds hard but it works very well.

What kind of paints are you using for these logos and how are the paints applied?

You could easily make the circles by using a tee mower set lower then your fairway ,cutting the circles and then painting them or dying them. cutting a lower height of cut will allow you to do it once and then keep it without having to carry out plywood. simply use a paint gun and string to mark the ring to be cut. It would be cool to replicate the colors of the olympic circles. I would bet a spray hawk may be the right width.
