My mechanic is in the process of winter maintenance and he's having a small issue with our GA60. Wouldn't say the problem is major but we'd like to fix. The issue is that when the GA60 is raised it will not stop running, which I guess is much better than when it is lowered it won't start running. He's spoke with our distributor and they are suggesting the clutch needs to be replaced. He's not so sure that the issue is the clutch but maybe something simpler and less expensive. Curious if anyone has experienced a similar issue and what you found? Thanks, Justin

Sounds like a saftey switch is screwed up. Not too familure with the GA-60 but there must be a limit switch that would shut the coring section off when it reaches the top of its raised height. I would start there, something may be grounding out when it goes up. It should be a simple task to troubleshoot, just disconnect the wire plug on certain lines and see if it still dies off.

I was kind of thinking the same thing, along a sensor line, but figured I'd check on here first before we started pulling stuff apart. Figure if it is the clutch we'd be seeing some other issues with it while running or when engaging aerfication, almost reminds me of the Sidewinder sensor that when the decks are lifted it shuts them off but I remember us having some issues with a sidewinder cause the sensor wasn't recognizing the decks raising and turning off. Thanks for the input! Have a happy and safe holiday season.

We have the tow behind GA-60 and it does not have any electrical hookup. Tractor Hydraulics raise and lower it while the PTO runs the tines. The tines only shut off when we turn the PTO off, otherwise the tines always run, up or down.

The GA-30 on the other hand turns on and off as it raises and lowers.

    Hi Justin,

We have the exact same problem sounds like. When the lever lifts the tines to make a turn, the motor goes to an idle (like it is supposed to) but the tines will keep moving in the raised position. Our distrubutors service department is also recommending to change the clutch. It is a 1995 so no shame for the old clutch i guess. If you discover another solution to this problem I would like to know.

    Thanks
    Thomas Davies

I had a tear in my eye when my ga60 went down the road after trading it in (not). Mine did the same thing, it was the clutch. Simple enough repair, although one has to disassemble quite a bit of the machine. I found a broken spring. The clutch is supposed to have an amount of slip to compensate for entry. Have a look at the clutch.

Check the adjustment of the clutch. Also check to see the machine is lifting properly. The lift bracket on ours came apart. A weld job was all that was needed.
