Anyone pulled the trigger on their seedhead control program on bentgrass greens? I'm in extreme Southern VA and we're seeing them already. Caught me by surprise; I never, ever remember seeing them this early. Should be an interesting spring for growth regulator, aerification recovery, and preemerge timing.

Michigan St. has their growing degree day tracker going. We are listed at 10 (Base 32) here in St. Louis. Poa is still pretty yellow here in the rough and on the greens with a couple of winter trimmit applications this year. Green temperatures were about 44 last week(39 right now) before we got hit with some real winter with a couple of nights near 10.

    Mark,

Sprayed for them on Wednesday. I agree, I have never seen them pop so early. Here in SoCal normally Im still 4/6 weeks out yet. At least my vendors will happy w/the additional business Im going to throw at them.

In Southern California, we have native plant material on the foothills blooming two to three weeks earlier than normal. With La Nina, we have had many more frost mornings but the daytime temperatures are negating the impact of the cold. Looks like early everything this year.

I just checked the PACE Turf Growing degree day models for GDD32 and GDD50 for Danville and Rosemead. It's time for seedheads.

According to the literature, Poa seedheads show up between 200 to 500 GDD32 and between 30 and 50 GDD50.

    For the past 30 days, Danville, VA, GDD32 = 302 and GDD50 = 18. Rosemead, CA, GDD32 = 793 and GDD50 = 253.

We also have a client in coastal southern California who applied Primo+Proxy three weeks ago, and the application seems like it went out too late. He took a short vacation after the application and returned to a nice flush of seedheads. Poa is thriving this spring.

    Hey Mark,

Hopefully the wind will lay enough to spray by Monday. If I tried tomorrow I imagine the proxy would make it to Lynchburg at least before it ever hit the ground. Hope all is well in Danville.
