Dan,
We have utilized a sonar device in our 1 acre pond for the past 2 years with much success. It has allowed to use little to no inputs to control algae. It is important that you get the size and quantity correct for your pond. We ended up with the largest unit (1) on an acre pond. This unit is rated to control algae on a 2+ acre pond. Basically, you almost need overkill for it to work, but it will indeed work. You can justify the costs if you are no longer treating the pond regularly.
