I have Mini-Verde greens in SE Missouri. My practice green is very small 2500 sqft. It is covered in poa, the greens on the golf course have a few small areas of poa on them. The greens are for the most part dormant. I am curious what I could spray to kill the poa at this time of the year. I think that Revolver would be ineffective due to the temps. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Certainty at 1.25 oz/acre. You could throw the Revolver in for good measure and you will keep the Poa out all winter. Have done this on Champion several years in a row prior to going into the winter season and it works very well for me.

    Kerry,
I've only been working ithe south for 8 years now, right around when Tranxit, Revolver and Monument started to be used for poa control. I've seen numerous course that used Kerb for control and dinged ALOT of turf, not just the Poa.
I have never used Kerb, but should I assume your recommendation is because of cost? I only ask because I know the the SUs are not cheap, but certainly they are safe, other than the fact that they run a bit.

They smoked the Tifdwarf greens at Wellington CC using Kerb in 1999.

    Scott,
Was that a KSL Fairways Group property? I think I know the story behind that kill

No, but it was a management company. The superintendent sprayed it at a labeled rate, but it still smoked the Tifdwarf greens.

Tranxit, Certainty or Revolver probably better choices. Kerbs an old product around since I got in the business in the 70"s. It is great on poa but it will move and you have to be very careful if spraying on greens with the overlap. At shorter mowing heights it has the potential to burn bermuda if improperly applies.

Add sprayable ammonium sulfate .2lbN/M with your revolver or monument it will speed things along a little. I also put Methylated seed oil in when spraying on bermuda fairways, but might leave it out on greens.

I take Revolver out at 5oz/A every year in October. Sure I can't see the poa yet but I know its there already. How do I know, because I don't get any poa in my TifEagle. None. Not even one plant :)

I'd avoid the Kerb at all cost. Kerb is much more active in a sandy environment. No point in risking it when you have Revolver/Monument to take care of the same issue with virtually no burn potential.

    On Kerb...

I saw some work that McCarty did with preemerging ultradwarf greens prior to overseeding Poa Triv quite a few years ago... he had Kerb in there too at 4lbs., 45 days prior to overseed... next April showed 98% control of Poa Annua with just that one application. (when asked, he said it was one of his controls... he wondered why more of us out in the southwest weren't doing it.)

We tried it three years ago on our nursery at 3lbs. (yearly max)... this application was made on August 28th... we saw nothing on our Miniverde prior to overseed... found ONE Poa Annua plant on there the following March!

Tried it the following year on the course... only to find that it put a hurt on the Rye around the edges of the green (no spray hawk...)... if not for that, we'd still be doing it, as the greens were CLEAN that year.

Cultural practices to favor the bent and get on the trimmit program until methiozolin gets registered.
