I've been asked to look into getting some of the over sized novelty putting green cups for use in special tournaments etc. I've searched through all my catalogs and all over the internet and haven't been able to find any information. Any information on a cup cutter for these cups would also be helpful. Thanks.

I had a set when I was a Superintendent but only used them once. We had a difficult time resetting the plug so what I did was used the oversize cup cutter and cut a shallow circle, about an inch, then I used a regular cup cutter and set a cup in the center of the large circle for the flag. It worked well and was easy to repair.

Standard golf has them in 6" and 8". The only hassle is it is hard to stradle them with a triplex greensmower.

We have three or four events a year that use them and they are popular. Our set is homemade by some metal workers who golf here.

I got a set of 8" through Standard a few years back. They payed for themselves and a cutter first time out. Only problem I ever had is that sometime before had used a 10" cup/bucket and people complained caused our "big cups" weren't big enough. I have no clue where they borrowed them from and glad I didn't have to cut those holes, I still saw scares from them when I started 3 years after they used them. When it comes to my 8" I have it down pretty well. Pull what I can and save the lose soil in a old garbage can. I place sod on plastic in a back of a cart and water down. I usually put them back asap, but have had them out for a few days without a problem.

Standard catalog has the cups and the cup cutter. I bought 18 brand new cups last year have not used them. I still just put a regular cup in the middle of a shallow big cup area. Do you want to buy my cups?

Thanks for the feedback. I hadn't thought about trying to straddle one with a triplex. Soon after I posted I realized they were called "special event cups" in the Standard Golf catalog and sell for $34 each, plus $110 for the 8" "turf repair tool" used to cut the hole. I also see that R&R sells a 6" sod repair tool if one decides to go with the 6" cup.

i used the 8" turf repair tool and cut that depth out and cut a standard cup in the center, held up very well...used this setup for some temporary greens.

Along with our cups we have a plastic rubbermaid bin for each holes plugs. Depending on the weather they can be stored inside or in the shade for the day.

All the loose soil goes in the hole, then the plug and then we pack it in with a 12" x 18" tamping plate until smooth and water if needed. If we do not put all the soil back in eventually the plug sinks.
