I do not have a moisture meter so I am using the good old fashion touch method. My greens moisture seems to be adequate. Not too much not too little. I am measuring canopy temps at 104 degrees F. A quick turn of the heads drops it about 10 degrees for an hour or so. When I proboe the green I measure soil temps at different depths and am consistent for about 6" at 95 degrees. Obviously 6" is pointless cause I am mainly poa and very shallow roots at this time.

To those that measure canopy temps, what temp are you seeing wilt?

Do you think using ice water to syringe would help?

    Jeremy,

No need for ice water, a syringe with a hose is best method to utilize when temp on top is high. As one who grew up in Mid-Atlantic and fought these battles all summer long many years, one must go out and touch each green with your hands and spot to find the areas needing attention and just cool them off as required, when the air temps are over the top. Especially with poa/bent greens. you will find not all spots need it all the time....If you put your hand on a spot and it feels hot cool it off, if it feels ok leave it alone for the moment until it needs attention. As you go around you will get to know where it needs it the most and other greens that may not need it at all. The ideology is not to over-water and get soil too wet and have root problems, pythium ect. Just want to cool off top of turf let mother nature evaporate the moisture and cool down the temperature. Ice is a little over the top and in fact too much water in one place! You want evaporation to do its work! Keep in mind sprinklers are for watering soil and hoses are for syringing.....this is what we learn quickly in the transition zone battle of summer fun in the heat and humidity!!!
