    You use your groomers?

I have a set of groomers coming in for one of my mowers and I am trying to build a program that will consist of grooming, rolling and cutting the greens. I would like to stop mowing a couple times per week and roll instead. While we are closed on Mondays except for tournaments I was hoping to skip the mowing on Mondays. What I need to be aware of is if I start rolling on Sundays instead of mowing (especially in football season when we get little play) and skip Mondays it would leave me with three days between mowing greens. While I have two toro mowers I will only have one set of grooming reels so how do I squeeze in use of the mower without groomers as well as rolling and grooming. Just not enough days for it all and I am sure I will get complaints.

    James,

I'm assuming bermuda greens? I have Miniverde on a low budget... we don't roll... no primo... you get the picture!
We have been grooming very aggressively for the six years that we've had the Toros with the DPA units... we creep down until we're .020 off of the bench. Previously we mowed 7 days with that setup, but now we only mow five.

You might play with them... I think you'll find you can get more aggressive than you would have thought possible.

My groomers are set-up at .60 below HOC, which is currently at .140. I will vary the groomers depending on the weather and may get down to .80 below HOC. We run groomers every time we mow greens which is 5 days a week right now, including a weekly backtrack double cut. We roll the other 2 days. Champion bermuda.

Thanks for the input guys. I really wish I had a set of groomers for my other Toro Mower then I could rotate them. I really want to groom at least 3-4 days a week if possible but was wonder how many groom even more often.

    James,
Ladd's is the distributor of the TB 200 grooming brush in your area. Have them demo it for you. Consistent management of the laid-over grass blades with the grooming brush will reduce the need for grooming to near zero. It's a very simple process that does not inflict the physical damage to the plant tissue that steel blades will always do. Additional benefits of the brush are to incorporate topdressing deeper into the canopy that saves cutting edges of bedknives and reels; and you won't find a better tool for backfilling aerifier holes.
For anyone with bermuda or paspalum who desires a more aggressive bristle than the .035 that is standard, the TB 200 is now available with a .060 bristle. You have to see to believe what this tool is capable of!

Thanks for the suggestion, I had used these a while back but I currently have a couple of board members that have been riding my arse about grooming cutters because they play in a lot of big tournaments and those courses do it. Until now we could not afford a set of groomers but we are in the process of ordering a new greensmower and they want them on it.

I am just trying to get an idea from the guys that do use them on how often the use them.

If anyone has an old set for a Toro 3250-D mower they want to donate or sell cheap please email me. It would be better if both of my mowers were set up with them.

A couple of board members?!?!?! who play in a lot of big tournaments?!?!?! Why didn't you say that in the first place? In that case, you have all the answers at your disposal before you even ask the question. Just ask them how often the groomers ought to be used.
