I have been at my course for 8 years now, and we are still using most of our original equipment. To make a long story short, I have been asked to put a capital plan together for the property, the entire golf operation. I am interested how you may have put this package together. I am not looking for your numbers, but more how you presented it. This is probably going to be at least a 5 to 10 year plan.

Any comments or feedback regarding this would be greatly appreciated. If you would like more information let me know.

Our entire property runs off of a spreadsheed that is broken down by year with the tabs at the bottom. You can look through year to year easily and move/link cells within the same sheet as well. You can also print it all off as one document.

If I were running the spreadsheet, I'd have a single spreadsheet for each department set up exactly like the one that is compiled for the entire facility. Then I'd link them to the sheet for the entire facility so you could make changes on the individual sheets and they would copy over to the master.

A power point presentation would be good for the first couple of years detailing what and when. Many members/partners do not know what you are asking for when you say John Deer 2500 or Toro Greensmaster 3150. Good luck!

I do mine on a spread sheet showing how old the equipment is, I color code the equipment along with it's conditions and I even do a crude miles to hour conversion. I have mine go out five years. This I think allows some flexibility, when you aren't able to get all that you wanted or if there is a little extra money to spend. I also write a justification statement on why we want to replace the equipment we have asked for. The only thing I haven't figured out is when I make a change on one year, getting it to change on future years like Danial has.

I like the idea of a power point presentation or maybe a hard copy with brochures.

I might try to post it later today if you would like.

Don't go out farther than five years and then update every year. Unless you are extremely lucky you will see items that are number 3 or 4 still on the list after five years.

I am hoping this attachment works. The spread sheet actually goes back a couple of years when I first started the plan. It then goes to show what we were hoping to get for the next five years. One note, we are going to replace an old Z-mower with one not quite as old, so if that looks stupid, that's why. This year we were encouraged to be a little optimistic, it would be nice to get two pieces per year. We have been averaging one piece every other year. The summary is just list pricing, I'm sure (I hope) on the high side. Hopefully it's useful. Our new operations manager seems to like it.

    Jason:

Attached is a spread sheet that I have used to justify equipment investment based on several factors.

Fantastic stuff, thanks. Considering the number of times your information has been down loaded, we all thank you very much.
