We are growing in some new Dominant Plus Bentgrass greens and want to put down some pre-emerge to control the possibility of goosegrass invasion but are concerned that some agents may have a determinantal impact on the new grass. Any insight or experience in this regards would be appreciated.
The greens were seeded and germinated during the late fall of last year. They have about 4.5"+ roots on them at this point.

I have yet to put down pre-emerge on greens in 24 years. And I'm thankful to not have the need. I have had a couple greens that had a few crabgrass and goosegrass plants but we just plucked them out with a knife. Pre-emerge on grass at green HOC makes me nervous. I have seen some bad results from pre-emerge apps on greens. I would only apply if the greens had a history of high population of annual grassy weeds and even then I would be very cautious.

I know a lot of guys do apply, but I'm with Clay on this one. Treat your surrounds and keep them as clean as possible, your best defense is a dense healthy stand of turf on greens, and pluck the plants if you have any on the greens.

I never had a problem with greens in August after eliminating Pre Emerg in the spring. As said before a good job on surrounds and maybe pick a plant or two. If you have past history of heavy Crab and Goose problems I would say you have no choice. Raise the HOC in hot spells.
