We have a bad problem with what we believe to be Sand Wasps in our bunkers. Has anyone found a solution to getting rid of them? Thanks

Cicada killer wasps. I posed this question last year and got a lot of suggestions. Best idea that has worked for me was to try Dead End, a product from ATCO International. Its a fire ant dehydrator powder. I would squirt this stuff into the tunnels first thing each morning, when they are less active. They will move from bunker to bunker searching for cicadas. I am starting to see some here as well.

    Good Luck

We have them here also. The best method is tennis racquet's. Might want to do this while golfers are not present. These things will not sting you, at least I haven't been tagged yet. We have a competition on who can kill the biggest. Does the job with a little work relief and humor :)

I second the tennis racquet! Fun, and free.

That gives a whole new meaning to natural gut racquet strings. Sounds like fun but people watching will probably think you're crazy.

You are right! I was after some the other day on one of our greens when a cart girl drove by and saw me flailing around after one. Needless to say she didn't stop and drove off shaking her head!

Just by hand place it around the area does not take much, and it will lock up there leg and wing joints and then they die.

Just an update on the wasp control. My college boys have killed 136 in the past two days with tennis racquets. As stressed out as we all are with the summer heat, it always brings a smile to my face sitting under a shade tree watching those boys have a home run derby with them damn things.

The best luck I've had is using one ounce of scimitar in a 32 ounce spray bottle. Spray into the holes early in the morning when the females are most active and watch them come out dazed and confused. The cicadas either die in a few hours or the person spraying steps on them when the come out. I got this info from the University of West Virginia's web site and have seen a significant reduction in the wasp population. I've been wondering for the last couple of years that since some of the "harsher" insecticides have been removed from the market have you guys seen an increase in pests like the cicada killer wasps?
