Our golf course is in the market for a new riding greens mower. We really like key features on all the hybrid varieties (Toro, Jacobsen, John Deere). I was just curious about how these mowers have actually been doing out in the field.

    Michael,
I have a new Toro Triflex 3320 and so far everything is great with it. We walk our greens 90% of the time, but use this for double cutting or when short staffed. We're also using it as a roller to do the light-weight rolling for summer (bent greens in Vegas). I really like the way they attach- Very quick and easy.

Purchased 2 JD 2500E's. The whole crew are extremely happy with them. Mechanic has an issue with changing spark plugs and oil filter. Both are an accessability issue. He said he could deal with it.

They cut great and use less fuel than anticipated. I'd buy them again.

Courious at what your fuel use is, we have 10 plus year old Ransome Gplex II's and they use about 1 gal to .9 gal per hour, our Toro 3150 that has 2050 hours uses about 7/10th of a gal per hour.

    Thanks!

There is aa issue with the 2500e's and accessibility to regular maintenance items like plugs and filters. Have to move the alternator for both on gas engines. John Deere has been in the turf business for some 30 years know It would be nice if there engineers / designers would put some thought into regular maintenance items. I would opt for diesel e models next time.

Mechanic told me today the 2500E's are using .5 to .6 gallon per hour. I had 2 2002 2500 diesels, which one basically blew up and the other is currently serving as our approach mower, it uses about a .9 gallon of fuel per hour, 3800 hours. Parts became are becoming an issue on the engine. At one time, I was in sole possession of the only water pump in the world to fit a diesel engine from 2002.....go figure.

With Tier 4, gas is for me.

    Douglas,

Thanks for the info. We just had one of our other courses replace a gas engine on their JD 2500 from about that time frame, had 3376 hours. When we started the process of pricing, there were 8 engines left in inventory in the JD system (so we were told) and the were $2300, by the time we got the ok to order, there were 5 left in the system. Although they had short blocks out the ying yang for only $2800. The only 2500 I bought was in Indiana and we had it doing tees, collars and approaches, but because of that we went diesel. Of course that was back around 2000 when Tier 4 was probably a dream.
