If you had turf that was not responding to fertilizer and supplemental applications, cytokinins, gibrellins, IBU, etc, and you were coming onto an aerification, what ammendment would you use in the sand backfill topdressing and why?

I have been pulling out all the stops on "USGA" greens. PH range from 5.8 -6.5 (I would like to take up a tad). These greens had a past amount of PROFILE put into them. The watersource is the same for both courses, and only the USGA/ Profile course has issues.

-The water is reclaimed. I have noticed that for all the rain, no real algae development.

    Thanks, -Ian

    Have you considered nematodes?

Ian, what soil type do you have in other course? What grass species are you talking about for each course? Where are you? Rain should help flush sodium if it is an issue. Is a microelement completely depleted, the chain may be broken.

    x2 for what Andy said.

I find myself flushing with a calcium or synthetic acid and coming back and adding a healthy dose of Ca and Mg and see a great response. I also moved over to a slow release K for my baseline Potassium and supplement as neeed. Seems like you can never have too many of your cations in a sand based system.

To answer your question on what amendment I would use for filling aerification holes, I'd give two options. Helena has a granular Hydra-Hume that you can blend with sand that works well or Rhizogen makes a great line of organic fertilizers that are innoculated with all kinds of good stuff that I have swept into my holes at aerification.
