As most of you already know - the wide receiver, Aaron Hernandez of the New England Patriots was charged with murder today in the killing of Odin LLoyd.I'm sure in time we will know if drugs were involved.

I think Hernandez contract was for 5 years at 40 million dollars total. I could be wrong on this and I don't feel like looking it up. Of course the Patriots let Hernandez go today.

For New England, Welker is gone, Hernandez is now gone and Growtowski "The Gonk" is recovering from an injury. Can OJ still play???? Mr. Brady and his boss Bill have a lot of work ahead.

Do you expect anything better from a Florida Gator?

If Tebow can catch a football, he may step into the tight end position. What is wrong with guys like Hernandez? The world had been handed to him on a silver platter because of his solid play. Unfortunately, his old gang days must be too much to get away from. How many times do we need to see these sports figures act like thugs and end up in prison? This happens way too often in virtually every sport. Why can't they learn to live within the opportunity they have created? Do they think they just won't get caught? I know most top players have been pampered since childhood but where is some moral code or understanding of right from wrong along with a healthy dose of common sense? If guilty, his new playing field will be quite a bit smaller and most of the players would just as soon kill you!

I was thinking the same thing. I saw on Facebook the other day when they were touting the former Gators that won another NBA championship (as role players I believe), and Amy Wambach passing Mia Hamm as the top goal scorer for the women's US National team. I'm waiting to see the Gators post this.....

Capt. you are correct about his contract, heard it on ESPN today.

Also saw how many NFL players have been arrested since Feb. 1st, it's about 1% of all the players when they consider those retired too, (I think its what I heard). Wonder what the percentage of criminals are among the normal population.

    Greetings,

Yes, I am correct in the 40 million for 5 yrs. However, he also got 12.5 million bonus for signing for 40 million and 5 years and this is his, no one can touch it. Hernandez can spend a few million for his defense. This 12.5 million will hurt the Patriots cause it will put them over their cap. The Patriots were concerned about Aaron and his temper. Just last year, Aaron told reporters he had turned the corner and was going to be ok and he thanked Patriot owner Mr. Kraft for sticking with him.

His attorney is Michael Fee and Mr. Fee lives in Needham and is the town moderator. Mr. Fee was a member at Needham Golf Club until he left in 2011 to join a bigger club four miles down the road.

One of our bartenders was a friend of Odin Loyd, they played football together. He said Odin was a very nice guy.

The next hearing for Hernandez is July 30 so he is in jail until then. The police are looking for two more men who was with Arron and Odin that night.

Andy, I don't know anything about the Florida Gators - they must be wild but GOOD!!!!

The pro shop at Gillette Stadium where the Patriots play is now free of all Hernandez jerseys, hats etc.

Mel, you may be correct on the percentage. The number just seems high and frequent because the press reports everything instantly. I do know that a couple of former Chargers had some issues but charges were nearly always dropped or the coverage just went away. I am sure the owners do their best to squash coverage of bad behavior on a regular basis. Knowing what little has been reported in the press on this one, it sounds pretty cold blooded. It makes you wonder if Hernandez may have wasted more than a person or two while growing up. The other side of the coin is that he was pretty sloppy about the execution. I would guess if you were a veteran at murder you would be better at covering your trail. Maybe he just thinks he is untouchable because he is a star! It will be interesting in a morbid sort of way to watch how this case develops. His career is over. He will get convicted of no less than accessory to murder based on what little has been divulged. But, that is what the courtroom is for. I can judge from the peanut gallery and it means nothing but an opinion.

Not sure if it equals out to the 1% number you guys are talking about but I think I heard that 28 NFL players have been arrested since the Super Bowl. Not a good trend at slightly under 2/week. Millions of dollars to play football and that's how they behave? Sad.

Got a stat from one of the sports channels up here that quoted the San Diego Tribune reporting that there have been 640 NFL players arrested since the year 2000 and the top three team leaders are #3 Denver with 35, #2 Cincinnati no number given and #1 Minnesota with 40

No wonder the Raiders have had crappy teams the last ten years.
