The college football season begins tonight and in honor of our dearly departed friend DMAC, I offer a breakdown of some of this weekends games:

    Tonight:
North Carolina @ South Carolina. East coast USC should be way too much for the tarheels.
Utah State @ Utah. I guess they can't wait to hate out west. Bitter rivalry game right off the bat. Aggies were excellent team last year but lost their top notch coach. Utah was down but beginning to rise. I'll take the Utes at home.
Rutgers @ Fresno State. East coast bias will wilt in the central valley heat in a game Pete will surely be interested in. Bulldogs dominate the Scarlet Knights. (Pete, I know you have nothing to do with Fresno, but David always asssociated you with them so I will continue the tradition for at least this week)
USC @ Hawaii. West coast USC will have a Hawaiian vacation this week. Have a mai tai for me boys.

    Friday:
Texas Tech @ SMU. Scoreboard lights will be on overtime for this. Red Raiders prevail in a game that could go over 100 combined points.

    Best of Saturday:
Georgia @ Clemson. Best game of the week. Dawgs will bring home a road win despite the best efforts of the tiger faithful.
Boise State @ Washington. Big game out west as BCS busting Broncos will need to win. Huskies have improved but no more excuses for Sark. UW must win and they will.
LSU @ TCU. Marquee game that will be on the low scoring side. Have no idea but will take the Tigers in honor of DMAC.

    Sunday:
Colorado @ Colorado State. Another early hate game. Buffs were pitiful last year. Rams will squeak one out.

Since David's son played for San Diego State, I will take the mighty Aztecs over the powerful team from Eastern Illinois!

You forgot the big prime time game Monday night. Florida State over Pitt.

Thanks Gus for posting, it just goes to show despite through in a lot of cases just through contact on this forum, (and the occasional GIS show or chapter delegates meeting) how much we all tend to be part of each others lives. Also reminds how much we will miss David.

And for at least the 5th year in a row I cannot name a single player on Fresno State, even though David always accused it of being ny team.

Good work, Gus. I'm already looking forward to your weekly updates. Do you have a Sports Spending Advisor?

Now whaddaya' got on Northwestern @ Cal?

Run DMC, miss that guy. Always looked forward to the SEC/Big 10 volleys. The Big 10 would usually prove David correct. He's somewhere right now pointing and laughing.

Oh boy, do my Aztecs suck! I think the spread against Ohio state next week might be 80 points!

My Aztecs still suck but the Chargers did better than I expected but unfortunately pulled the same choke / gag at the end. Hard to tell after one week who was good or if the losers were just really bad! Denver looks for real but they didn't have a running game. Maybe things have changed and you can do well without one. That usually ends up hurting teams in playoffs, especially during cold weather. After one week the two best appear to be San Francisco and Denver. I wonder what next week will bring?

    Sandy,

The only thing worse than watching the Chargers meltdown again last night was having to listen to Chris Berman and Trent Dilfer (I think that's who it was) do the game. I can't believe that's the best ESPN can come up with for Monday Night game or any game for that matter. Almost made me want to turn the whole game off.

Gary, it looks like the Charger Raider series should be fun to watch this year. Which team will make the critical mistake and the least opportune time? Those games, based on one week of performance have the potential to be pretty even games. Even after watching some of the Eagles game last night, I would still pick the Bronco's and 49ers as the strongest looking teams so far. Much can change over 16 weeks.
