Hey Mel sorry to see Jimbo kicked off a starter for the Noles. Reid was on target to break many if not all of Neon Deion Sanders return records and he was a three year starter in the defensive backfield. Unfortunately these days it happens to many programs......even the squeaky cleans ones....not to mention any names. Bad apples are everywhere.

Yea, I was sorry to see that too, but it seems he had already been in trouble too many times and given a lot of chances. From that stand point I don't have an issue with it.

Hopefully one person doesn't hurt a defense, and while special teams are important, I'm sure there is a fast and talented enough kid that would at least be as good to not hurt them. Maybe the rest of the team steps up as they see someone being held accountable for their actions.

Saw the preseason poll (which I wish they would do away with) had 5 sec teams in the top 10. I'm an sec guy but I don't buy Georgia and South Carolina being rated that high. Arkansas has the talent but with the coaching change who knows.

Can't wait for the season to start. My Vols play NC State in a friday night opener to kick the season off on national TV. My prediction: the volunteers awake from the dead this year and crack the top 20 with one signature upset (hopefully Bama).

Gus I certainly hope the Vols play better. Dooley is a good guy, met him and his wife a few times in golf tournaments when he was at LSU. Hope he rights the ship for Tennessee. Disagree with your assesment of Sou Caroline though. Think they will be good again..........UGa on the other hand has talent as long as it's on the field and not suspended or in jail.

That's good to hear about Dooley- he seems pretty sharp. Unfortunately he is on the hot seat this year due to the manner in which we lost to Kentucky last season so I hope he does well. After the roller coaster ride the last few years after firing Fulmer I'm not interested in another coaching change.

Wonder what it takes to get kicked off an SEC team, unless you are being cut, which I don't think is the case here? Standards at LSU?

He got suspended last year for failing a random team drug test. He failed another is is gone. He was given another chance as you would expect to give a 20 year old kid. He screwed up and its cost him $$$$$$$$$$. He moves on and we move on. At least he wasn't showering with 10 year old kids.

If the regular student body was held to the same standards for marijuana use, there would be a lot less college students on any campus. I'm no midnight toker but getting booted from college for smoking pot seems 'harsh.' pardon the pun

I do see how some team punishments would be applicable if busted during the season though. I liked the good ole days when this type of thing would be handled in house with a few stadium step runs. (what we used to call "AA meetings"- AA for attitude adjustment)

    Ron,

Apparently Les Miles can't seem to make up his mind. On August 10th Miles described the move as "permanent" and said Mathieu will not be back. On August 14th LSU coach Les Miles declined to close the door completely on the possibility, however remote, of Tyrann Mathieu playing football for the Tigers in 2013. "He will not be on this football team this year — I guarantee that's a fact. So I have no idea beyond that." Give Miles a few more days and Mathieu might be starting again for LSU this year. I guess it depends on how big a star you are when it comes to Miles and kicking people of his team.

    Rick,

Maybe it changes depending on how practice is going?

And I know Iowa has no skeletons in its football closet either. The reason its such a big deal is he was a Heisman finalist last season and a preseason AA.............ESPN mag ended up with a little egg on its face with the release of him on the cover the day the story broke. If Iowa had some quality athletes they might get noticed but don't want to throw stones.............you never do.

Iowa's closet is pretty small. LSU has a large walk-in closet any woman would love to have. Iowa is not a win at all cost, lie, cheat, steal school like LSU. Iowa does have quality athletes...it's just if and when they get dismissed from the team Ferentz doesn't hem and haw around like Miles. They're gone. So how many drug tests DID he fail? One, two, three, four, five? Of course you only pay attention to LSU, so how would you know about Iowa football. Aww come on Dave, you never throw stones do you???

They never released the number of failed drug tests. You know the drill the privacy act mumbo jumbo. The policy is fail 1 and the parents are brought in with the player for a face to face and drug counsoling; fail 2 and you recieve a minimum one game suspension (which he did get) fail 3 and by university policy removed from the team. Miles is not the one himhawing around as you said. The AD on the day he was dismissed said he is gone for good ( a good Duke guy and they never throw athletes under the bus at Duke). Then the compliance assistant AD said he cannot be reinstated period. But the AD second in charge said "not so fast" if he choose to remain in school on his nickle and maintains all the hoops he may have to jump through there might be an opening. The reporters caught Miles off guard after practice on Monday before he had heard any of this crap from the athletic department and his comment was "he will not play football for LSU this year thats a fact" "what his future holds I have no idea" "I'm rooting for Tyrann in whatever his future is".........." I have 104 players on the team I am focused on"...............thats clear enough to me. I do not think he will ever suit up in Tiger Stadium again. I excpect him to be a McNeese Cowboy shortly in the FSC division of the NCAA

We had a guy on the radio the other day up here, one of those guys that does the pre-season magazines, he is thinking Oklahoma vs. Florida State with the Noles coming out on top.

I can't get myself to say those words DMAC, the hate for Bama runs too deep. So go Big Blue! Don't forget my Vols Aug. 31 v. NC State! The orange kool- aid is pretty tasty this preseason- optimism abounds! Of course, it might turn sour again once the season starts. I can't believe it is almost here.

Meanwhile on the home front. Temecula Pee Wee Mighty Bruins kick off the season kick off the season saturday morning against the Carlsbad Purple Lancers (say wha?). Unfortunately they will take the field without their #1 lineman, wacko Jacko Nelson, who broke his collarbone the first week of practice and has a couple weeks left on the IR.

Steve yea it pains me too and I understand your feelings as the Vols-Tide rivalry goes deep. But its the SEC vs the Big 10 so might as well start the hate comments early. Tell Jacko I wish for a speedy return to the starting lineup........what exactly is a Purple Lancer?

Mel I would not be calling Vegas to bet the odds on that happening but hope springs eternal....good luck to your Noles.

Just read "The Herbie" pre-season awards/predictions. Kirk Herbstreit has predicted that Florida State will defeat USC in the BCS game.
