    Hello,
Does anyone have any free standing water fountains on their golf course? We have 6 throughout our 18 holes and I'm looking for any advice on some new ones. The ones we use now just don't cool good enough when it's over 90 degrees outside. I'm in west central Oklahoma so we get above 90 degrees often and for months at a time. Yes, the ideal thing would be to get rid of them and get coolers but that isn't an option for the club right now (board doesn't like them). We have water and 120v power to each station. Any advice or helpful tips would be great! Thanks!

I put in Haws 16 years ago and they are still trucking. One every other hole.

Is it that they don't get cold enough or that they get used too often to keep up with cold-water demand? Is the existing unit an outdoor unit? Is it in sun or shade?

They just don't get cold enough. The unit we have now is an outdoor unit but they are mostly out in the sun all day. Occasional shade from trees but no structure.

They should be shaded for max efficiency. A pain to build shelters but way better than coolers that are inviting litigation.

We installed small wooden pergolas over ours and that really helped, but depending on the fountain type you can fit foam board or reflectix inside the cabinet, you might also look at insulating the water lines leading into the fountains and just inside. Some courses here in the metroplex use a coiled copper water line connected to a regular fountain bubbler, they have it in an insulated cabinet filled with ice. Those seem to work really well, Halsey Taylor has a unit like that https://www.prodrinkingfountains.com/Ha ... /hticf.htm

    Corey,
I don't understand you comment about coolers inviting litigation. There was a case in Arizona several years ago that resulted in a big lawsuit and settlement for wrongful death caused by contaminated water fountains on the course. As a result, many courses went to bottled water (including us). I have heard of no litigation as a result of coolers and water bottles.

I was speaking of Igloo type dispensers. These shroud be maintained by a trained kitchen staff in sanitation.

I believe the sickness and death came from contaminated water in a 10 gallon cooler.
