St. Joe is about as far north as I've heard of.

Pretty sure Tavistock CC in south Jersey (Philly) area still has Zoysia fairways. Joe Troll used to have a patch on campus at UMASS albeit on top of a steam line. I like how you use the word "managed." Zoysia will survive on Cape Cod and along the coast in New England but it's just a curiousity. Kenneth Ingram, UMD.

I believe there are some courses in Southern Illinois that have zoysia. I converted poa mix fairways at one of the course I managed in the late 90's in Central Illinois and someone tried to convince me to put in zoysia. I did do a test patch that was dormant for 8 months of the year. I don't think you can go very far north of St Louis and effectively "manage" it.

I have been on a course in Bloomington, IN (about 30 minutes south of Indianapolis) with Zoysia. I have heard there is a course in Indianapolis with Zoysia but I cannot confirm this.

There's at least one club in Cincinnati with zoysia fairways.

Are you thinking of changing from zoysia?

Latitude 39 48' 6" is Springfield Il which is about as far north as I know in our area and that pretty much runs through St Joes, Little north of indy, between Columbus/Cincy, DC and a little north of there.

Dominant turf fwys/tees in St. Louis is Zoysia and we have a winter kill event about every 10 years or so with zoysia but not major.

10-15 below is about the coldest it can stand. Zone 6a is pretty good, 5b is pushing it but it will grow.

Meyer is still the best for cold hardiness but I know they have been closing in on other varities that might be getting close to its ability to withstand the cold.
