I'm acutally starting to like the idea of letting anthracnose take out my poa. The last 3 years I have let it get going a little before treating and I have gone from about 90% poa to almost a 50/50 mix with bent. Has anyone else used a disease to convert from mostly poa to mostly bent. I'm curious how far this could take me.

Not with anthracnose, that I know of, but about 15, maybe 16 years ago, we worked with a company that was marketing a product called "Xpo," my spelling my be off a bit. "Xpo" (Xanthemonas campestris)) was supposedly the bacteria that causes bacterial wilt in poa annua. Theory was that if you could intentionally introduce bacterial wilt you could take out the poa and not harm the bent.

We'd ship it packed in dry ice, and the Super was supposed to get it sprayed within a few days. Super was to mow the greens first, creating an entry wound for the "Xpo," then immediately spray, getting it into the plant that way.

It's not for sale anymore, as far as I know. Some things work great in the laboratory.

On the Algarve in Portugal we used to take out poa with dollar. My biological products control dollar but with a very limited N supply the dollar would attack the poa and not touch the bent. This course was hosting European PGA Tour Portugese Open and PGA Tour Senoir Tour so we would do it low season and windows so as not to affect the tournaments. The pros liked it, the pro shop was not so keen.

going into my second summer with two day a week irrigation, no syringing or hand watering hot spots. That works pretty good on poa too.

My fairways get hammered with anthracnose and have been able to remove a large portion of the poa population by using paclo at 10/12 oz per acre, feeding my fairways .10 N every two weeks and spraying no DMI fugicides. My secret weapon too was straight urea and or ams and when anthracnose shows up skip a fert app and increase the paclo. I never get summer patch, but would love to figure out a way to.
