I have an old hydraulic Irrigation system that has been in the ground since 1984. Every year we replace a few heads but this year it is a little more. My owner will not except that it is just an old system, there has to be a reason he says because the other courses he talks to have an older system but not the same trouble. Here is the problem when the hydraulic system is charged and the water supply is at full pressure the snap ring will not hold the bottom valve in and the head continually blows out. He tried to blame human error during fall blow out but I refute that because the heads show no cracking due to freezing water. Also almost all the areas are elevated where water will not stay even after we have blown the system. I have replaced both valves and snap rings and still have a problem. Not all the heads are toro 670 some are hunter, simplicity, and john deere replacement heads installed in the past. The only solution seems to be replacing the heads but that is getting expensive. If anyone out there has experience with this and has any other solutions or remedies i would appreciate hearing about it. Thanks in advance,

One possibility is air in the lines. It is amazing what air in the lines can do to a head when you're filling. What kind of pressure are you running at. If it is when you're filling you might want to install air relief valves at your high elevation points. Hope this helps.

is it possible that the water has remained in the valve itself during the winter? if it had the valve itself may have froze causing the snap rings to pop out or break.
