Does anybody have any suggestions for mosquito control? We have had a very wet late spring, and now the summer heat has created perfect mosquito conditions. We have treated our ponds with larvacide, but our golf course is surrounded by fields and other wonderful breeding grounds.

We are a municipal, and our park director has asked myself and the parks manager to find solutions for mosquito control, if nothing else for larger events. Our community does not own a fogger, and the option to purchase one is not there.

Has anybody tried or had success with the "natural" mosquito barrier products (i.e. sprayable garlic extract)? Would it work to spray a barrier around or on our native grass and wooded areas?

Any other suggestions? I think it is a tough row to hoe as the entire area is swamped with mosquitoes. Area traps last year at this time had a count of less than 100 bugs, this year it is close to 2000.

    Thanks

In my area they use airplanes to spray/dust for mosquitos. maybe you can check with other local areas to see if they have someone doing this for them and see if you can pay them to do it for a few weeks.

We have aerial sprayed twice each summer with great results for the past 11 years. New GM this season says waste of money, not doing it anymore. Time to buy the bug spray!

Thanks for the replies guys. There is currently no vector control program/budget for our community, and from calling around and talking to officials it does not appear that there will be any spraying or fogging done.

I guess you're right...bug spray sales should be up in the proshop!

Check out VectoBac biological larvacide from Valent (liquid and granular options). Used it with varying results. Timing of course is very important. Sounds like budgetary restrictions may be an issue for you though so may not be an option if treating large areas. Worth looking into anyway.
