I was wondering for all the guys out there using Primo on fairways, what rates you are going at? I'm spraying my fairways every 3 weeks at .25oz. I am not quite getting 3 weeks, but close. It would be great to spray every 2 weeks at this rate, but just not possible right now. I am considering going at .30 to .35 to see if I could get it to 3 weeks, but don't want to waste the product if you don't think it will help. I realize there are numerous factors like nozzle selection, volume, mowing height, fertility, etc. I use TeeJet AIC11004 and spray at 30 gpa and usually add .10 lbs of straight urea to the tank, my mowing height is .425. Thanks for reading and hopefully answering my questions,

    Andrew

419 fairways here... In the past, we stuck to a 28-day, 11oz/A rate with decent results. Last year, I started increasing the rate by 1oz with each successive app, and felt that control was more consistent from beginning to end of the growing season. This year, we are on a 21-24 day interval to completely prevent the plant from coming out of regulation. We will be making our third app next week. We could mow 1x a week, and not have that many clippings, and the surface is great. We've had over 8.5" rain in the past two weeks. Mowing with JD 3235C @ .650 or old Toro 6500 @ .500. Also started mixing in micros this year at 1gal/A to improve color response.

I spray fairways every three to four weeks in the summer at 14 - 16oz / acre with nothing else in the tank. 419 in S. Florida.

I spray in the summer, GN-1. Start with 8oz/acre, wait two weeks and go with the 16oz. rate every 30 days!

We spray 12oz/acre our first app and then go up to 15oz/acre till the end of the growing season. Which is usually around September. We use this same spray on our tees also. We usually get about three weeks of control. This is on 419 fairways and tees.

I am in Southeastern Michigan, growing bent/poa and have a few other grasses in there I could care less about.
I am going to try the .30 rate and see what happens!

I've been spraying at .25/M every 2 weeks. Initially all but shutdown growth, I can survive a long weekend now without looking shaggy but after 4 days I will remove a fair amount of clippings. This is in Chicago area on Bent/Poa fwys.

    Andrew,

There is some work done recently at the University of Wisconsin with Primo and the window of its efficacy. See the attached PDF. If nothing else it's food for thought. I hope this helps.

The 200 degree growing day is real, I have tracked my growing degree days this year and when I miss the window I can see the grass coming out of regulation. But as the article stated, it is only for greens height of cut.

Thanks for the article, good read! I actually went at .25oz per 1,000 of Primo with .11lbs of Urea and 2.2oz of Daconil. Next time I will be sure to increase the Primo to .30oz. I was afraid of a color issue, but when I ended up spraying greens a day earlier with Primo and other nutrients. I ended up with 10 gallons of product left over, so used it up on the beginning of a fairway. I hit that area again when I did my fairways the next day and the color is not an issue at all.

    Mel,

I have to thank you for posting something about this earlier in the year because it made me think about our PGR program and read the research. I can say that the regulation on our greens (0.125 fl oz/M, weekly) is like clockwork at 200 GDD however, our fairways (0.25 fl oz/M, 14-21 days) have ranged from 300 up to 450 GDD. This is on L-93 in central Ohio. It's definitely nice to be able to track and have a reasonable idea of when the turf is coming out of regulation. Thanks again from sharing a little of what you learned at your chapter meeting.
